Magpies coach Craig McRae has paid tribute to his side’s spirit and ability to ride their momentum.

He also said the side’s younger players were stepping up and he hoped to bring young talent Sam Swadling back into the side next week after managing him this week.

“Certain things travel with you and one of them is our spirit,” McRae told Kayo post game.

“We probably showed the footy world that we play for each other when we were on the Gold Coast and Bruzzy [Brayden Maynard] was involved in that incident.

Crows coach Matthew Nicks was hurting post-game, both about the 10-goal turnaround that saw his side lose to Collingwood tonight, and the way some Crows fans chose to boo Isaac Quaynor.

Nicks warned fans during the week to show respect to Quaynor, but many of them chose to do the opposite.

“I mentioned it during the week. The game is a passionate game, and sometimes we lose our way a little. It’s not ideal how that played out tonight,” Nicks said.

The Crows led by 27 points midway through the first half, but Nicks was fuming about the way his side gave up several goals late in the first half to see the lead drop to eight points before the Pies ran away with the game in quarters three and four.

Magpies coach Craig McRae struggled to put his emotions into words when asked about Magpies star Isaac Quaynor being booed by Crows fans tonight.

Quaynor was on the receiving end of a homophobic slur from Adelaide’s Izak Rankine last season, which saw the Crows star suspended.

Rankine apologised, accepted his ban and showed remorse for his words, but that didn’t stop Crows fans from hitting out at the Magpies player, with footy fans around the country expressing their anger on social media during the match.

McRae said he was fuming about it on the Magpies bench.

Jordan De Goey has spoken glowingly about becoming a father to his baby daughter Tatum, but he’s also shown the rollercoaster of that experience.

But after bringing her into the rooms for the team song, and then on air for a chat with Kayo Sports, Tatum became a bit overawed and De Goey had to ask for a quick timeout.

“She’s lost it here. I might have to palm her off and come back. Can I have a sec?” De Goey said leaving the interview.

Then host Mark Howard grabbed one of De Goey’s former schoolmates, who was wearing a custom-made T-shirt of De Goey in a gold cap.

“They say your 200th game is all about you, but I think my mates are having a better time than I am,” De Goey said.

His friend from high school, named Jack, dropped a naughty word or two but also made it clear De Goey was much loved by those he came up with.

Collingwood overcame a 27-point second-quarter deficit and a hamstring injury to Brayden Maynard to steamroll Adelaide by 34 points, but the Magpies’ triumph was overshadowed – and stained – by the ugly booing of Isaac Quaynor.

With the eyes of the nation watching on for the Thursday night blockbuster, vocal pockets of the 50,109-strong crowd at Adelaide Oval aimed needless vitriol at Quaynor every time he touched the ball. Those fans opted to ignore pleas during the week from Crows coach Matthew Nicks to “be respectful” of Quaynor, who was the victim of a homophobic slur from Izak Rankine late last season.

Rankine served a four-game suspension as a result of his indiscretion, including that qualifying final which Collingwood won easily. Quaynor was viciously booed that night too.

On the win after trailing early:

This group has got great belief. I feel like the last two weeks we’ve said that when we are down, we want to go back at teams and get even more attacking.

At the moment, that is paying off. We know there will be games where it doesn’t, but this one was a great example, and it was nice to get the win.

On the coaching of Craig McRae:

It was a coaching masterclass, to be honest. Fly [McRae] and the coaches have been unbelievable.

In particular in the second half of the season – they’ve set us up to be really attacking and, coming into tonight, they said, ‘If we can’t score, we want to send Howie as one of our leaders up forward’, and we saw him go straight away and score. That’s all the coaches.

On Geelong next week and their run home:

We’ve got a pretty tough run home if you look at the ladder, so it’s good to get this win.

This has been a masterclass from Nick Daicos, Craig McRae and Collingwood as they turned a 27-point deficit in the first half into a 34-point win.

You don’t get many 10-goal turnarounds in AFL football, but this win in Adelaide was one of them.

Daicos was superb with 39 disposals, but it would be hard to find a bad player for the Pies.

The team system is working to a treat and the players are stepping up.

Brayden Maynard’s leg injury is Collingwood’s major concern, but Adelaide have a lot more after dropping this one.

I doubt it will get them on the honour boards at Adelaide Oval, but the Pies have brought up their century – only the third time they have done so this year.

The Pies couldn’t have dreamed of getting this sort of margin tonight. It’s a huge result for them, and big worries for the Crows.

Brayden Maynard is back on the Pies bench. It appears he may have hurt his hamstring during a chase, but time will tell.

Either way, he’s done for tonight.

Ed Allan has booted two goals in a matter of minutes for the Pies.
