New details have come to light about Alex de Minaur's wedding with fellow tennis player Katie Boulter after a nasty response to the fact it occurred on the same day as the Wimbledon final. De Minaur and Boulter got hitched in an 'intimate' ceremony on Sunday near Boulter's hometown in Leicestershire village. The wedding occurred on the same day as the Wimbledon men's final, which raised the eyebrows of fans. Many questioned why the tennis stars would plan their wedding for the same day as the final considering de Minaur was a chance to be playing in it.It sparked a nasty response on social media with some brutal and unfair comments. But it's since been revealed that de Minaur and Boulter only booked in the date after they were both eliminated from Wimbledon.Because it was such a small ceremony with only a few guests, it didn't need to be booked months in advance like a large-scale wedding would. Jessica Schiffer of the New York Times reported on Tuesday that only some close friends and family were in attendance, and de Minaur and Boulter have planned a bigger wedding celebration for next week.Boulter's grandfather Brian, who has been ill and receiving care in hospital, was able to attend the small ceremony on Sunday. 'The First Serve' tennis podcast wrote on social media on Tuesday night: "There has been a lot of negative discourse around Alex de Minaur deciding to marry Katie Boulter on the same day as the men's Wimbledon final, with many arguing that he doesn't have the belief to reach a slam final as World No.5."That couldn't be further from the truth. Alex and Katie held a low-key wedding, which was a small, family ceremony in Leicestershire, but they've planned a bigger wedding next week. The first wedding was planned once both players knew they were eliminated from Wimbledon."We all saw how deflated Alex was after exiting the fourth round last week. He is the ultimate competitor, and anyone who argues otherwise doesn't know him."Alex de Minaur gets married and achieves career highDespite being knocked out in the fourth round, de Minaur has double cause for celebration this week. As well as getting married he's also cracked the top-five in the world rankings for the first time. He's the first Australian man to be ranked World No.5 or higher since Lleyton Hewitt in 2009. Only five other Aussie men have achieved the feat - Rod Laver, Ken Rosewall, John Newcombe, Pat Cash and Pat Rafter.
