Coco Gauff playing for spot in women's final

Coco Gauff has already gone deeper into the Wimbledon draw than she's ever been. The question now is whether she can go all the way.

The first step is Thursday's semifinal against 10th-seeded Karolina Muchova of Czechia.

Gauff, the highest seed remaining in the women's bracket at No. 7, is coming off her fourth consecutive three-set match at the All England Club − a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory over fourth-seeded Jessica Pegula on Tuesday, July 7.

Muchova defeated 14th-seeded Naomi Osaka in straight sets in her quarterfinal match.

Gauff, 22, is the only major winner remaining in the field. Whoever ultimiately wins will become the 10th different Wimbledon women's singles champion in the last 10 years.

USA TODAY Sports has live updates on Gauff's semifinal match against Muchova on July 9.

Coco Gauff vs. Karolina Muchova scoreboard

Muchova easily takes first set vs. Gauff

Under very warm conditions on Centre Court, Karolina Muchova broke Coco Gauff twice and rolled to a 6-2 victory in the opening set.

Muchova's power game is well-suited for the grass at Wimbledon and she used that to her advantage, despite getting in just 41% of her first serves.

However, this isn't an unfamiliar position for Gauff, who dropped her first set in each of her last two matches and still rallied to win.
