Chen Po-yi wins Asian Games soft tennis bronze in Japan

Taiwanese soft tennis player Chen Po-yi won a bronze medal in the singles event at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan. In the semifinals, the 23-year-old athlete lost 2-4 to defending champion Toshiki Uematsu of Japan, Taipei Times reports.

Chen’s second medal

Both athletes who lose their semifinal matches receive bronze medals at the tournament. This was Chen’s second award at the current Asian Games: he had previously won silver as part of Taiwan’s men’s team.

After the match, Chen told Taiwanese media that he considered winning two of the six games in the semifinal a success. He called Uematsu the final boss of soft tennis. The Japanese athlete won three gold medals at the 2022 Asian Games.

Four medals for the team

Taiwan’s soft tennis team finished the Asian Games with four awards. The team won gold in mixed doubles, two silver medals in the men’s and women’s team events, and Chen’s bronze in singles. At the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, Taiwanese soft tennis athletes won three silver and two bronze medals. In total, Taiwanese athletes had 13 awards at the current Games as of the evening.
