Hibs' 'character' delights Gray

FT: Rangers 1-2 Hibernian

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells BBC Sportsound: "A massive win, a brilliant win.

"I'm delighted for the players for what they've put into it and it'll be great for us moving forward as well.

"I did enjoy that one [the winning goal]. It shows you the character of the group and the belief that's in there as well.

"To a man, defensively, they gave everything. Full credit to them all."

Defeat 'harsh' on Rangers - McInnes

Rangers manager Derek McInnes tells BBC Sportsound: "It's damaging in the sense that we came here to win and we expect to win.

"It was really harsh on us. I felt we were the better team. Sometimes in life, in football, you don't get what you deserve. We deserve far better than what we got.

"There were some positives and I liked the way how my team never gave it up, they kept going for the win.

"What we've got to do now is just dust ourselves down because that was a blow for us. The response of the team in the latter part of the game was terrific.

"We probably need to play a bit more like that more often in terms of playing forward, engaging with our strikers quicker, playing with a better tempo. It was all a bit laboured.

"I share the frustration. It's been 15 years here of frustration, built up for a number of years. The one title the club did win, it was when no fans were in so the fans have not even seen their club win a title.

"I'm determined to get this right and I believe we will get it right. It's not been a good start from us, we understand that."

On Youssef Chermiti's first-half injury, McInnes commented: "A big blow.

"It would be wrong to speculate. It's some sort of impact on his knee and the way he's planted his foot. He'll be in a brace and a boot and we'll see how that is in the scan tomorrow."

Rangers 'not as bad as people think' - McInnes

Rangers manager Derek McInnes tells Premier Sports: "We were guilty of passing up opportunities in the first half and not playing forward enough.

"I've seen it back, I don't think it's a penalty but we have a lot of the game to try and rectify that. I thought it was very soft and surprised the referee is brought over for it [to the monitor].

"When the ball did go into our strikers we were far more effective and I felt the equaliser was deserved and we wanted to win the game. I can't fault my players' effort.

"There are little things going against us at the minute but we have to stay strong, we're not as bad as people think.

"At the minute we are trying to work boys back to the same level of fitness and trying to manage that situation.

"I understand the fan frustration, they want and expect to see their team win. I share the frustration."

Wait goes on for McInnes

Last season, Rangers had to wait until late September for their first Scottish Premiership win of the season.

After a draw and a defeat from their opening two fixtures this season, they will have to wait until at least late August for their first league win of this campaign.

Rangers host holders St Mirren in the Premier Sports Cup next Sunday then have a free weekend and return to league action away to Aberdeen on 30 August.

The Ibrox side also have midweek European fixtures this month, with Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok bringing a 2-1 lead to Glasgow on Thursday for the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie.

Hibernian head coach David Gray tells Premier Sports: "Rangers put us under severe pressure for the second half, the character was really tested but we made an attacking substitution to try and have that mentality of not just sitting in even with the Rangers pressure.

"[The winning goal] was a brilliant moment. I'm delighted for the players because we made a lot of changes and the players that came in did really well, it builds that character.

"The type of game suits Josh Mulligan. To a man I think it would be difficult to single anyone out because they were all so good.

"I've been through adversity at the start. The demands and expectations are always going to be there. The biggest thing is sticking together as a group. Internally we know we're in a good place, there's more to come."

Dundee United gave themselves 'mountain to climb'

FT: Hearts 4-0 Dundee United

Dundee United Jim Goodwin tells BBC Scotland: "For people not at the game today, they'd look at the scoreline and think that Hearts have given us a right going over.

"The reality is that we had plenty of the game. In the first half, I didn't think there was a lot between the two teams. Tom Renaud has struck a great ball from 40 yards. That's why we spoke to him in the summer and tried to bring him to Dundee United.

"The second goal is really disappointing. In this day and age, you don't get away with pulling a jersey in the box from a set play. VAR were always going to look at it.

"We gave ourselves a mountain to climb. We tried to make a positive change at half-time, brought on Sapsford. We knew the importance of trying to get the next goal.

"The second, third and fourth goal, there's a bit of naivety in the way we defended those situations. Maybe a bit of inexperience. But these are things I felt we did well against Rangers."

For Rangers to be at home in their first league home game of the season, Derek McInnes' first home game in charge and to score though a Hibs own goals and not create too much with two strikers on the park will be frustrating.

It will be back to the drawing board and they will get the players in to review it.

I touched on it before the game, if you go one without a win it's trouble, then two, now three usually that's crisis time and people start asking serious questions.

It's early on in Derek McInnes' reign and a lot of new players are in so you need time for that to gel but as you do that you need to pick up results as this football club demands it.

'Massive' win for Hibs

Hibernian's Josh Mulligan tells Premier Sports: "Massive result. It's the first time ever Hibs have come here three seasons in a row and got the win so we knew what it meant before the game. I'm delighted to get the result.

"[After Rangers equalised] you always think, 'don't lose another one' but we know the quality we've got, like you saw on the break.

"Just delighted to win. To come here and get a win, this is one of the toughest places to go."

Hibernian's Callum Wright tells Premier Sports: "The performances have been good so far this season.

"The lads are very good, we just need to start picking up the points. Two wins from our last two, which is good.

"It's an exciting project, I bought into it. I'm really excited to be here."
