Man Utd handed major boost as 'transfer agreement reached' after agent meeting

AC Milan are reportedly preparing to demand between £51million and £60million for Manchester United target Rafael Leao after reaching an agreement with him behind the scenes. Earlier this year, the Portuguese forward made it clear that he wanted to leave the San Siro this summer. He has spent the last seven years there, scoring 80 goals and contributing 65 assists across 291 appearances.

Leao told Sport TV: "I think I gave Milan everything I could give. It is a club that helped me grow a lot and supported me through difficult moments. I am happy to have left my mark on the club's history. Everyone has their dreams, their challenges, the things they want, the goals they want to achieve. And I also want to take on a new challenge in a new league."

United are among the lengthy list of clubs chasing Leao's signature, with Michael Carrick eager to bolster his attacking options ahead of a return to Champions League football.

Despite considerable interest surrounding the Milan winger, little progress had been made towards securing his exit from the San Siro.

Now, however, Sky Sport Italia are reporting that Milan have held talks with Leao's camp and reached an agreement that he can depart for a fee of between £51m and £60m this summer.

Such a fee would represent a handsome profit on the £42.4m they paid Lille to acquire his services back in 2019.

While Milan's preference is for an outright permanent transfer, they are willing to sanction a loan move with an obligation to purchase next summer.

Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have both tabled offers for the winger, yet Leao has his sights firmly set on a switch to either the Premier League or La Liga, with United considered the most likely destination.

Tottenham are amongst the other clubs to have registered their interest in Leao, though Roberto De Zerbi's side are thought to be focusing their efforts on a move for Bournemouth starlet Eli Junior Kroupi.

A resolution to Leao's future is anticipated once Portugal's World Cup campaign comes to a close. Roberto Martinez's side edged past Croatia 2-1 in the Round of 32 and face Spain in their next fixture on Monday.

The former Lille forward endured a difficult 2025/26 campaign at Milan, contributing 10 goals and three assists across 31 appearances in all competitions.

The Rossoneri, who appointed ex-Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim as their new head coach in mid-June, finished fifth in Serie A and failed to secure a place in the Champions League.
