Eva Carneiro hits back at Jose Mourinho's Netflix doc and tells John Terry to 'learn the rules'

EVA CARNEIRO has hit back at Jose Mourinho after the ex-Chelsea boss reignited their furous row.

And the former Blues medic also took a pop at ex-skipper John Terry on social media.

Carneiro, 52, worked for the Blues as physio between 2009 and 2015.

The Gibaltarian departed after a high-profile incident with Mourinho on the opening day of the 2015-16 season.

Chelsea found themselves drawing 2-2 with Swansea at Stamford Bridge and were down to 10 men following Thibaut Courtois‘ dismissal.

When Eden Hazard was wiped out by Ashley Williams in stoppage time, referee Michael Oliver waved doctors Carneiro and Jon Fearn onto the pitch.

Their entrance enraged Mourinho, as it meant that Hazard would have to leave the field, temporarily reducing the Blues number by a further man.

The Portuguese boss berated Carneiro and Fearn as they returned to the touchline.

Carneiro was subsequently banished from training and matches and left the club six weeks later.

She took Chelsea and Mourinho to court and the high-profile case was settled on day two of an employment tribunal.

In his recent Netflix docu-series, the 63-year-old boss said of the incident: “The story was very, very simple.

“I’m not a doctor but my eyes know when a player is injured and when a player is not injured.

“I knew Eden was not injured but the doctors went on to the pitch and we were left with nine players.

“For me, a lady doctor is the same as a man doctor. So, as always, I used my vocabulary when I’m not happy.

“There are words in moments where the tension is very, very high.

“Normally, people with football culture, with football DNA or with a football background get over it in one second. In that case, it was different.”

In several posts on X, Carneiro hit back, with the first reading: “11 years on and here we are reliving the worst. Hope they made some money“.

Terry, who was playing that day, added in the doc: “Medically, Jose would say unless it’s really, really bad, then they’re not coming on.

“That was the understanding of us as players, the medical staff, everyone bought into that.

“It was a big moment obviously and he took a lot of backlash for that.”

In Carneiro’s follow-up post she added: “We are bound by a medico-legal code of conduct. Genuinely it would be healthy for John Terry to learn the rules of the game. It’s been long enough mate”.

Two minutes later she cited a joint statement by the Faculty of Sport and Exercise Medicine UK and the British Association of Sport and Exercise Medicine, which states that it is a physio’s “absolute duty of care to attend and assess” a stricken player.

Carneiro wrote: “So IT IS really simple. Referee Michael Oliver called us on TWICE, player Eden Hazard requested medical assistance we then made eye contact from side line and he confirmed he needed medical assistance, TWICE.

“At that point my hands are bound as a medical professional.”

A further post read: “Only ONEdoctor on the pitch different medicolegal implications , try to read and learn. This isn’t me saying these are premier league rules and general medical council rules .

“This was explained repeatedly. Back to being a doctor bye bye”.

Mourinho was accused at the time of calling Carneiro a “daughter of a b****/w****” in his native Portuguese”.

The ex-boss denied making comments with sexist connotations.

Part of the employment tribunal settlement included Chelsea issuing Carneiro with a public apology.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December 2015, two months after Carneiro filed the initial legal case.

Asked if the matter played a part in Mourinho’s dismissal, Terry said: “There was a lot of heat on the football club.”

But Mourinho himself, whose side were 16th at the time of his axe, said: “The media around Chelsea every day, every press conference, what’s going to happen, the lawyer from the club, the lawyer from the doctor, who is going to be a witness… all of this situation didn’t help.

“But come on, I was sacked because we were losing. With Roman you win or you are sacked, simple.”
