Star Cat to undergo surgery

Geelong has confirmed Max Holmes will undergo surgery on the ankle he injured on Thursday night.

The star Cat went down awkwardly during the fourth quarter of 27-point win over St Kilda at GMHBA Stadium and appeared to be in significant pain as he came off the ground.

He was in a moonboot and required crutches to get around after the final siren.

Holmes will now go under the knife to repair a fracture of his right ankle as well as a syndesmosis issue.

"The Geelong Football Club can provide an update on Max Holmes following Thursday night's victory over St Kilda," read a club statement.

"Following further medical assessment, Max Holmes will undergo surgery today to repair a right ankle fracture and syndesmosis injury.

The news comes just days after superstar forward Jeremy Cameron suffered a shoulder injury which also requires surgery and will sideline him for four to six weeks.
