Tottenham transfer news LIVE: Balogun bid readied, Osimhen bombshell, Bergvall future latest

Cristian Romero looks to be moving closer to Atletico Madrid. The defender has been linked with an exit all summer, with Arsenal even credited with interest at one stage.

However, according to transfer reporter Matteo Moretto, Atletico are closing in on an agreement with Tottenham, with only minor details remaining to be resolved between the clubs.

Italian outlet Corriere has claimed that Djed Spence has become Inter Milan boss Cristian Chivu’s No. 1 priority this summer as he looks to replace Denzel Dumfries, who left for Real Madrid.

The publication claims that personal terms have been agreed and Spurs and Inter are close to sealing a deal for around £25million.

Spurs could be left frustrated in their efforts to register new signings due to the Premier League's homegrown quota rules.

The registration rules state that a club must name a squad of up to 25 senior players, with at most 17 non-homegrown players and the remainder homegrown.

This means that, as it stands, Spurs can only sign a player aged 21 or under without issues, or face the prospect of selling more players this summer.

Lucas Bergvall's future remains open despite his minutes this summer under Roberto De Zerbi in Tottenham's pre-season.

The 20-year-old's camp informed Spurs of the midfielder's wish to move on to a fresh challenge earlier this summer in order to continue his development. football.london previously reported that Bergvall had grown frustrated at a lack of training time as a number eight last season, let alone playing time in the role.

football.london understands there has been an appreciation from the player's side that De Zerbi has matched plenty of praise for him with a good amount of minutes in pre-season.

Earlier this week, it was reported that Spurs had the option to sign Victor Osimhen this summer, according to TeamTalk.

However, it's since been reported that the Nigerian striker will remain at the club beyond the summer transfer window, according to Soccernet.ng.

Osimhen has a contract with Galatasaray until June 2029, and there is no release clause. It's believed the Super Lig champions are planning to give Osimhen the No. 9 shirt as they build their attack around the 27-year-old.

It's been claimed that Spurs have no chance of landing Cody Gakpo unless Liverpool sign replacements or a huge offer, in the region of £70million is made.

Journalist Pete O’Rourke, speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast for Football Insider, said: “As things stand right now, Liverpool do not plan on selling Cody Gakpo despite Tottenham’s interest.

“A lot will depend on what Liverpool do on the incomings during the rest of the transfer window if more signings are to arrive, because [Andoni] Iraola does not want to weaken his squad.

“The only way he could possibly move would be if Spurs were to make a huge offer of £70m+ at least, and if Liverpool brought in more players. As I said, as things stand right now, with the squad a bit short, they can’t really afford to let Gakpo go.”
