Carlos Alcaraz is coming back. The seven-time Grand Slam champion, who missed the past four months of competition because of a right wrist injury — including the French Open and Wimbledon — announced Thursday in a collaboration Instagram post with Italian sports writer Fabrizio Romano that he's returning to the court for this year's US Open.

"Here we go," Alcaraz said in a short clip included in the post.

Alcaraz, 23, has yet to confirm if he'll participate in the tournament's singles event. If he does, he'll have a chance to defend his title. The Spanish superstar, still No. 2 in the ATP rankings, has won the US Open twice, first in 2022 and again last year.

Time will tell if Alcaraz's rival, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, will be in contention for the major, which captivates the tennis world annually in Queens, New York. The 25-year-old Italian standout claimed his fifth Grand Slam championship earlier this summer at Wimbledon but withdrew from the Cincinnati Open on Aug. 9. In a statement, Sinner explained that his right knee had been bothering him.

"I have to accept that I'm not ready to compete yet," he added at the time.

Then again, Alcaraz also withdrew from that Masters 1000 tournament. Now he's poised to take part in his first major since he won the Australian Open this past winter. That triumph made him the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam.

Alcaraz has been sidelined since April. That's when he sustained his wrist injury at the Barcelona Open. Specifically, Alcaraz has been dealing with tenosynovitis, which, according to Cleveland Clinic, is the inflammation of the connective tissue that surrounds your tendons. It can be painful and inhibit joint movement.

The main singles draws of the US Open begin on Aug. 30. Alcaraz could play in the tournament's mixed doubles event before then.

His return does wonders for men's tennis, which has sorely missed the always entertaining battle between him and Sinner. Together, they have combined for 10 of the past 11 Grand Slam titles.
