Celtic sign Real Oviedo winger Hassan

Celtic have signed Egypt winger Haissem Hassan from Spanish club Real Oviedo, subject to international clearance.

The 24-year-old, who impressed at this summer's World Cup, joins the Scottish champions on a four-year deal, with the option of a further 12 months.

Hassan was born in France and began his professional career with Chateauroux before joining Villarreal in 2020.

He subsequently gained experience with Mirandes and Sporting Gijon before moving to Oviedo in 2024 and helping the club secure promotion to LaLiga.

"When I heard about Celtic being interested in me, I had to get here and be part of the club," Hassan told the club website.

Manager Martin O’Neill said Celtic had done "really well" to secure a player of Hassan’s quality amid interest from other clubs.

"He is someone who I think has the ability and experience to do very well for us, performing at a high level in domestic and international football," said O’Neill.

"I am sure our fans will enjoy the energy and attacking intent which Haissem will bring to matches. I hope he will become a very important member of our squad going forward."

Celtic could be set for a belated transfer spree after long-time target Mika Baur was reportedly given permission to hold transfer talks.

The Hoops have been linked with the 22-year-old throughout the summer but a transfer fee was seen to be the only stumbling block.

The attacking midfielder is entering the final season of his contract with newly promoted Bundesliga club Paderborn, who he joined from Freiburg in 2024.

Germany under-21 international Baur had already made more than 60 league appearances for Freiburg’s second team as a teenager and has made more than 40 first-team appearances for Paderborn.

Crystal Palace have re-signed Aston Villa's Evann Guessand on loan for the season with an option to buy.

The Ivory Coast international made 14 appearances after moving to Selhurst Park in January until the end of last season, but in July Palace opted against making the move permanent.

The 25-year-old joined Villa from Ligue 1 side Nice for £30m last summer but failed to win a regular place in Unai Emery’s side.

He featured twice for his country at the World Cup as they reached the round of 32.

In a statement, he said: "I’m so happy to be here. I already have good memories here, but I think it’s only the beginning. I hope many more are coming."
