Jurgen Klopp's advice to Yan Diomande as Liverpool told to complete two dream transfers

RB Leipzig star Yan Diomande has shared the guidance he received from former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp. The young attacker has been touted as a potential summer target for the Reds following an impressive breakthrough campaign in Germany.

Liverpool will be in the market for fresh wide options during the transfer window, with club icon Mohamed Salah poised to depart when the season concludes. Diomande has emerged as a reported £87million target and the 19-year-old has also discussed his family connections to the Reds.

Klopp resigned as Liverpool manager in 2024, bringing his eight-and-a-half-year tenure to an end. He has subsequently taken up a position at Red Bull as Head of Global Football, supervising several clubs, including Leipzig.

The 58-year-old will be fully aware of what Diomande offers to Ole Werner's team, having scored 13 goals and registered nine assists across 33 appearances. Klopp has spent time with the winger through his Red Bull duties and Diomande revealed the advice he was given, while playing down suggestions they had discussed Liverpool.

In an interview with Bild earlier this year, Diomande said of Klopp: "No, not that. But we talk every now and then. He tells me to stay humble and keep working hard. It was always my dream to play on one of his teams.

"That's not quite possible now. But being so close to him now, talking to him, shaking his hand, it's incredible. He's a legend. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a movie."

The Ivory Coast international has previously spoken about his father's desire to watch him play for Liverpool. Coupled with his admiration for Klopp and his impressive displays at Leipzig, former midfielder Dietmar Hamman has called on the club to recruit Diomande alongside Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon.

"Signing Diomande and Anthony Gordon would be a dream summer for Liverpool, but they've got to be careful," Hamman told NewBettingOffers. "I thought last season, after the success of the season before and the signings, that there was no way they wouldn't win the league.

"They ended up being 20 points off, probably a bit more. So sometimes you've got to be careful, but certainly, if they get these two players and they stay injury-free, I think they're sorted for the next few years."

Earlier this campaign, Diomande had outlined his father's ambition of watching him take to the pitch at Anfield and admitted: "I want to play for Liverpool. I'm a huge Liverpool fan." However, he has since moved to clarify those remarks.

"People made it out to be my dream club," the Leipzig star told Bild. "But first and foremost, it's my dad's favourite club. It was always his great wish to see me play there someday because he loves the atmosphere at Anfield. He always raved about Steven Gerrard.

"I was too young to see him play. We didn't even have a TV at home for a long time. I have a lot of respect for Liverpool, but my dream club right now is Leipzig."

Despite the speculation surrounding his future, the 19-year-old's attention will firmly be on finishing the campaign on a high with Leipzig. The German club currently occupy third place in the Bundesliga and are on the brink of securing Champions League football with three matches left to play.
