Ruben Amorim is all set for his Manchester United reunion as manager of AC Milan, seven months after his Old Trafford departure

Ruben Amorim will compete against his former club Manchester United as AC Milan boss on Saturday. And he will undoubtedly face several of the signings he secured during his 14 months at Old Trafford.

Michael Carrick's United travel to Wroclaw, Poland, for a pre-season friendly against the Italian giants and having been appointed in June, Milan manager Amorim is set to do battle with his successor. The 41-year-old was relieved of his duties at United in January after a turbulent 14 months in charge.

A lot has changed since his exit. Carrick helped his side to a third-place finish and was given the manager's job permanently. But all seven of the signings Amorim made at United have stayed put.

Of course, Amorim had but a small role in securing these players, with United's board doing the heavy lifting. Regardless, he played a part in coaxing them to Old Trafford and Mirror Football rates these recruits seven months after Amorim's dismissal.

Ayden Heaven

Grade: 5/10

Ayden Heaven was Amorim's first signing at United, plucked right from Arsenal's academy for just £1.5million in the winter window of 2025. An ankle injury meant his first half-season was lacklustre, but in 2025/26 he started 11 league matches and was named United's Player of the Month for December 2025.

Giving Heaven a five seems somewhat harsh, but at only 19, he is undoubtedly a star of the future and hasn't yet shown he is capable of starting for United long-term. Though that assessment could look silly in the years to come.

Patrick Dorgu

Grade: 6/10

Alongside Heaven, Patrick Dorgu was the only other signing Amorim sealed during that January window. He made his debut at right-back against Leicester, despite arriving as an attacking left-back from Lecce for an initial £25.2m.

Once shifted to the left, he began to shine. He was instrumental in United reaching the Europa League final in Amorim's debut term and even under Carrick, he has continued to impress. An injury suffered after scoring a crucial goal against Arsenal in January sidelined him for several months, but he still mustered four goals and four assists in 2025/26, sometimes being deployed as a winger.

Matheus Cunha

Grade: 8/10

In his first and only summer in charge, Amorim was backed to the hilt by United. His first gift in the window was then-Wolves talisman Matheus Cunha, who was signed for £62.5m.

Cunha has proved to be a great bit of business, netting 10 goals and providing two assists in his first season. He has just enjoyed a solid World Cup with Brazil, too, and deserves an eight, as he'll be a crucial component of Carrick's side in the upcoming campaign.

Diego Leon

Grade: 4/10

United fans have not seen much of Diego Leon, but that isn't the young Paraguayan left-back's fault. He joined for £3.3m from Cerro Porteno last July and was only signed as a youth prospect.

The 19-year-old is yet to make a senior appearance for the club, but played 13 games in the Premier League 2 for United's Under-21s last season, so it is far too early to give him anything other than a four. A loan move could be on the horizon.

Bryan Mbeumo

Grade: 8/10

Like Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo's arrival signalled just how strongly United's board trusted Amorim 12 months ago. He joined Brentford for an initial £65m and instantly became a talisman.

His 11 goals and three assists made him the joint-top scorer last season, playing 34 games across all competitions. The way the market has gone this summer, he, too, has been a bargain, though he couldn't prevent Amorim's January dismissal.

Benjamin Sesko

Grade: 7/10

Benjamin Sesko completed a trio of big-name attacking signings last summer and out of the three, he has arguably fared the worst. But that doesn't mean he hasn't impressed.

It took time, but, especially under Carrick, he started to show glimpses of the talent that earned him his £65m move from RB Leipzig. He was the joint-top scorer in 2025/26 with Mbeumo and had a knack for bagging important late goals towards the end of the season.

Senne Lammens

Grade: 9/10

Amorim saved the best till last in our opinion, as on deadline day last summer, Senne Lammens was scooped up from Royal Antwerp for £18.2m and has been a revelation.

The goalkeeper position had plagued United for some time before Lammens' arrival, with Andre Onana simply not cutting it and Altay Bayindir suited to a back-up role. But the Belgian has made one of the most scrutinised roles in football his own.

He made 32 appearances in 2025/26 and kept a clean sheet 39 per cent of the time. His 66.9 save percentage is among the best in the top flight. Purchasing Lammens now looks like a masterstroke and he has been a nine-out-of-ten signing.
