Professional football is an incredibly competitive environment, and it can be unforgiving, as there are only 11 starting positions every match, and for one Liverpool cult hero, he has not found himself on the pitch for 727 days after his latest contract termination. The Reds have had some legendary players pull on the jersey and represent them at Anfield; however, they have also had some players who may not have reached the heights of these individuals, but they are beloved by the fans.Fans remember the likes of Momo Sissoko, Steve Finnan and Luis Garcia as fine servants for the club, but they are never going to be considered the best players to have played for the club.Another of those would be Divock Origi, who scored some important goals for the Reds to secure some memorable victories.Origi netted in the 2019 Champions League final against Tottenham and hit two in the iconic semi-final comeback against Barcelona.Another iconic moment in a Liverpool shirt was a goal in front of the Kop to seal a monumental 1-0 win over Merseyside rivals Everton as his side chased the quadruple. However, despite leaving Liverpool in the summer of 2022 for a future filled with more game time at AC Milan, it has not panned out this way as he struggled with the Italian club before being loaned to Nottingham Forest in the 2023-24 season.Origi’s last appearance came at Everton on 21 April 2024 for Forest, in a loan spell that saw him make 22 appearances, eight starts and grab one goal in an FA Cup replay against Bristol City.Upon his return to the San Siro, he was frozen out of first-team plans, his exit confirmed with a 25-word statement on 23 December 2025, and since then he has been without a club, as reported by the NY Times.Origi turned 31 yesterday, and it doesn’t appear that he will be making a swift return to club action at present as campaigns come to a close for the majority of elite leagues in Europe ahead of the World Cup, with it unlikely he will be named in the Belgian squad this summer. The Liverpool cult hero made memories to last a lifetime for fans of the English club, and there will be hope among them that this is not how his career comes to an end, but the future of Origi remains unknown at present.
