England Ashes star Ben Duckett convicted of speeding after horror Test cricket summer in Australia

The 31-year-old was caught going 93mph (150km/h) in a 70mph (113km/h zone) near Stoke in Staffordshire, England.

He pleaded guilty and offered no mitigation for the offence — which occurred on the afternoon of August 24, hours before he helped Birmingham Phoenix beat Manchester Originals in The Hundred.

On Friday, Duckett received a £700 ($A1340) fine and four points on his licence from the court, while he was also ordered to pay £120 ($A230) in costs and a £280 ($A538) victim surcharge.

He had admitted to the speeding back in September after being contacted by the local authorities.

Duckett then pleaded guilty to the Single Justice Procedure when the excessive speed of his case meant criminal prosecution was preferred to a fine.

It comes after Duckett, who was prosecuted for drink-driving in 2015, was embroiled in a scandal during the Ashes when he was filmed drunk on a night out in Noosa.

He apologised for being unprofessional — with England 2-0 down at the time of the night out, before they went on to suffer a 4-1 series defeat.

Duckett’s form in the middle has also become a source of criticism after he averaged just 20.20 across the five Ashes Tests with a high-score of 42.

Earlier this week, the left-hander withdrew from a £200,000 ($A384,000) deal to represent Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League.

Instead, he is committing his time to county cricket as he bids to maintain his place in England’s Test team for their three-match series against New Zealand in June.

Duckett has played 43 Test matches for England, scoring 3,074 runs at an average of 39.92.

He has six hundreds and 16 50s — but has only managed two half-centuries in his last 17 innings.
