Wimbledon women’s final watch guide: Muchová, Nosková set for all-Czech title match

For the first time in Wimbledon history, the women’s singles draw will conclude with two Czech players. Karolína Muchová, the 2023 French Open finalist, and ninth-seeded Linda Nosková face off for just the second time to decide who will lift the Venus Rosewater Dish.

Their only prior meeting came in the third round of the U.S. Open last year, when Muchová won in three sets. However, the two have spent extended time together on the court. They were doubles partners at the 2024 Paris Olympics, finishing just short of a medal in fourth place.

On Thursday, Muchová beat the United States’ Coco Gauff in a dramatic semifinal. The pair pushed each other to a 10-point third-set tiebreak. Match points were saved and opportunities were missed. Muchová saved 11 of 13 break points against her and ultimately prevailed.

Despite being one poorly executed drop shot away from elimination, Muchová has now reached her second career Grand Slam final. She previously lost to Poland’s Iga Świątek in three sets at the 2023 French Open.

Nosková put together a much more clinical semifinal performance, beating Ukraine’s Marta Kostyuk in under 90 minutes. Up 5-4 in both sets, the 21-year-old managed to break Kostyuk’s serve, converting half of her break-point opportunities. Four years after her Wimbledon main-draw debut, Nosková is now the youngest finalist since 2014, when 20-year-old Eugenie Bouchard lost to Nosková’s fellow countrywoman Petra Kvitova.

The Czechs are considerably balanced going into the final. Both present powerful all-court play styles. Both have saved match points en route to the final. And both have 11 wins on grass at tour-level events this year.

Yet only Muchová has suffered the heartbreak of a Grand Slam final loss, an experience that could potentially hinder her ability to close out when it matters. Nosková has never been in a Grand Slam final before, but she has put her nerves of steel on full display throughout the tournament.

While both players have produced magical moments so far, Muchová is the favorite over Nosková on Saturday. Whoever triumphs will become the third Czech in four years to win a Wimbledon singles title.
