Seven Ukrainian Tennis Players Will Compete at Cincinnati WTA 1000 Tournament

The WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati will take place in the United States from August 13 to 23. The prize money for the event will exceed $7.4 million, and seven Ukrainian players will compete in the main singles draw.

Svitolina and Kostyuk to start from the second round

Elina Svitolina received the eighth seed, while Marta Kostyuk was seeded tenth. Both Ukrainians, like the other 32 seeded players, will receive a first-round bye.

In the second round, Elina Svitolina will face the winner of the match between Czech player Tereza Valentova and a qualifier. Marta Kostyuk’s opponent will be the winner of the match between American wildcard Sofia Kenin and a qualifier.

Ukrainian matchups in the first round of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati

Five more Ukrainian players will begin their campaigns in the opening round. The draw produced the following matches:

Daria Snigur – Yulia Starodubtseva;

Oleksandra Oliynykova – Elvina Kalieva (USA, wildcard);

Anhelina Kalinina – Darja Vidmanova (Czech Republic, wildcard);

Dayana Yastremska – Tatjana Maria (Germany).

First-round matches are scheduled for August 13–14, while second-round matches will take place on August 15–16. The reigning champion of the WTA 1000 tournament in Cincinnati is Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek.
