Early blitz from Kildare leaves Westmeath too much to do and sets up Leinster U-20 semi-final date with Meath

Kildare qualified to play Meath in the Leinster U-20 football semi-final with a deserved five-point win against Westmeath in a rescheduled quarter-final in glorious weather conditions in Mullingar, eight days after bad weather in Kinnegad caused it to be abandoned at half-time.

Westmeath spurned a couple of early chances before wind-assisted Kildare took complete control, kicking a remarkable 1-10 without reply by the 16th minute. This haul included three two-pointers – frees by Ronan Kelly and Jimmy Lynch, and one from play by Ben Ryan. The goal was scored in the eighth minute by Kelly at the end of a great move.
