Man Utd Agreement Close to Sign Ederson From Atalanta

Manchester United are now close to an agreement to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to Fabrizio Romano, but there is a twist to the story.

Now they have secured Champions League qualification and confirmed Michael Carrick as their permanent manager, work can start on strengthening the Man United squad ahead of a more congested fixture list next season.

Jason Wilcox, Omar Berrada and other Red Devils senior chiefs know that they have a big opportunity to deliver a squad for Carrick that will see them make big progress again next season, if they get the recruitment right.

Central midfield is the key priority position with Casemiro already playing his final game for United and Manuel Ugarte likely to join him through the Old Trafford exit door, with up to three new signings expected in that part of the pitch should the Uruguay international leave.

Some of United's main transfer targets for the position are Premier League-based players, but they are also considering stars with no experience of playing in England, like Ederson at Atalanta.

The Brazil international was an unused substitute for the Serie A outfit on Friday night, with manager Raffaele Palladino confirming after the game that he didn't play because negotiations are ongoing over a transfer to a big club.

That big club is Manchester United, with rumours out of Italy on Friday morning suggesting that a deal had been concluded between the Red Devils and Atalanta over a move for the 26-year-old.

Those stories have been tempered by Romano, posting on X on Friday night, although the Italian journalist confirmed that United are in advanced talks over a move for the Brazilian, with an agreement close, after club officials travelled out on a transfer mission to Italy.

There is a twist to the story though, with the Red Devils yet to decide on whether they want to proceed and close the deal for the 26-year-old, who has been described as 'the strongest DM in the world', as they continue to work on other midfield targets simultaneously.

Who Else Could be the Subject of United Mission?

Romano's claim that United are in Italy regarding several transfer topics is interesting, and will leave fans wondering as to who the players are involved.

After recent rumours, it wouldn't be surprising if one of the players was AC Milan star Rafael Leao, with the Red Devils one of the Premier League clubs said to be interested in the Portugal international, as they look to sign a left-sided attacker this summer.

Elsewhere, Bremer of Juventus is another player linked with United in recent days, with the Brazilian's future in doubt should Juventus miss out on Champions League football.

In terms of outgoings, Joshua Zirkzee seems the most likely name, having been constantly linked with a move back to Serie A for the majority of his Old Trafford career.
