Tim Payne debuts with a great goal in Paraguayan football

The high-profile New Zealand footballer Tim Payne made his debut this Sunday with a goal in the emphatic 5-0 victory of the ever title-chasing Olimpia over Rubio Ñu in a match on the third round of the Paraguayan Clausura Tournament.

The 32-year-old player came onto the pitch to take the right-back position in the 68th minute, replacing the usual Raúl Cáceres, and scored Olimpia's fifth goal with a powerful shot from outside the box.

Braian Romero (16), Eduardo Delmás (45+2), Romeo Benítez (50) and Fernando Cardozo scored the other goals for "Franjeado", who claimed their first victory in three matches.

Payne played in the 2026 World Cup with the New Zealand national team after arriving at the North America-hosted tournament as one of the most high-profile players thanks to a campaign previously promoted by an Argentine influencer.
