Test hopeful’s huge message to selectors but Konstas misfires in Bangladesh tour opener

West Australian spinner Corey Rocchiccioli has continued his push for higher honours, producing a superb six-wicket haul as Cricket Australia’s XI took on Bangladesh in a tour match in Darwin.

It wasn’t all positive for the hosts, however, with young Test hopeful Sam Konstas enduring another disappointing outing at the top of the order as Australia stumbled early in reply.

Cricket Australia’s XI is facing Bangladesh in the warm-up fixture ahead of next week’s two-Test series, which gets underway in Darwin before shifting to Mackay.

Bangladesh won the toss and elected to bat, looking to make a strong start before Australia’s bowlers quickly wrestled back control of the contest.

Bangladesh’s positive start was halted on the final ball of the third over when Hanno Jacobs produced the breakthrough, removing Tanzid Hasan.

The visitors steadied through Shadman Islam and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto before Corey Rocchiccioli took control of the contest.

The West Australian struck in the 15th over, dismissing Shadman for a well-made 31 from 47 deliveries, before continuing his impressive spell as Bangladesh slipped further into trouble.

Rocchiccioli continued his hot form picking up another two wickets to send Bangladesh into lunch 4/78.

Following lunch Bangladesh were able to get it going pouring on 28 runs in seven overs before the Aussies struck again with Campbell Thompson picking up his first wicket of the day.

The next over Xavier Crone picked up his first wicket leaving Bangladesh 6/110 at end of the 39th over.

It then took 15 overs before Australia broke through again before Rocchiccioli once again struck gold with three wickets in ten overs to run through Bangladesh’s bottom order.

Jerrssis Wadia collected the last wicket for the Aussies as Bangladesh went all out for 263.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz impressed for Bangladesh with his 109 off of 141 balls and captain Najmul Hossain Shanto was the next best with 37 off of 53 in the first innings.

For the Australians, Rocchiccioli led the way and finished with six wickets giving up 83 runs as the Australian’s prepare for the second innings.

Australia’s XI has made a horror start to its first innings, with Test hopefuls Sam Konstas and Campbell Kellaway falling cheaply.

Konstas managed just one from five balls, while Kellaway was dismissed for a duck as Australia slumped to 21-2 after six overs.
