Kenya bounce back to win second T201 Series tie

Kenya bounced back from a 1-1 draw to win the second T201 series match by one wicket in the 2-match T201 series.

The second T20 International match which was played at the Nairobi Gymkhana Club Ground took the centre stage in Kenya’s cricket on Saturday.

Kenya begun the day poorly after Bahrain’s Fiaz Ahmed anchored the visitor’s innings with a brilliant 88 runs off 49 balls.

Despite the valiant fighting knock of 73 runs from Kenya’s captain Dhiren Gondoria, the hosts fell short by 15 runs by the end of the first T201.

Bahrain later set the bar too high for Kenya as they set a target of 149 runs after Fiaz Ahmed again pulled 65 more runs making him the top-scorer.

Kenya’s chase went down to the wire before they managed to edge out a 1-wicket victory to secure a hard fought comeback.

Joseph Angara, the National team Coach termed the win for Kenya as a motivation and applauded his side for the fighting spirit they kept.

“It is a big motivation for us to play and win against a team that is ranked against us. Bahrain really bowled well they put us under pressure but we kept on fighting and am proud that we restricted Bahrain and get the win,” he said.

Angara further applauded Kenya's hard fight and applauded the team after bowling on well to take the win home despite the good game from Bahrain.

Angara’s sentiments were echoed by Kenya’s captain Dhiren Gondoria who also highlighted the key moments which ensured their victory against the highly rated Bahrain.

“It is a good comeback, when you look at today’s game and compare it to yesterday’s we really bowled well today through out, we restricted the opponents despite the pressure even after having the lead and helped that is what has helped us today.”

Gondoria also noted their positive mindset and play despite the rising pressure which kept on boiling from Bahrain.

“Despite the pressure that was not ending we patiently kept on playing well and improving and that is what helped us capture our opponents with the chances we got,” he added.

The win for Kenya provided crucial competitive practice for the upcoming ICC Men’s CWC Challenge League fixtures.
