Ruben Amorim’s radio silence since his Manchester United exit has now been explained after the former Sporting CP manager was axed from Old Trafford.

The former Manchester United manager is currently a free agent and has been out of management for three months after his 14-month reign at the Red Devils ended.

United were sixth in the Premier League table at the time that Ruben Amorim was dismissed from his role after his fractured relationship with Ineos at the club.

Amorim had been brought to England from Sporting CP after Ineos made the decision to sack Erik ten Hag as Man Utd manager during the 2024-25 campaign.

Amorim’s exit from Man Utd saw Darren Fletcher immediately take over as caretaker manager before Michael Carrick was appointed interim head coach back in January.

BBC Sport now reports that ‘sources’ have informed the news outlet that Amorim’s silence in his post-Man Utd era has been intentional amid his free agent status.

The publication added that the former Sporting CP manager has ‘no plans to speak to the media any time soon’ after three months of radio silence on his United tenure.

Ruben Amorim’s future in management and sporadic appearances post-Man Utd

Amorim has made public appearances since he left Old Trafford in January, including watching Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz play tennis at the Qatar Open in February.

However, Amorim has kept his lips sealed around Man Utd outside of rumblings that have been reported, as his future in football management remains uncertain.

The former Man Utd manager has been linked with a return to Portugal and Benfica are reportedly interested in Amorim as a potential replacement for Jose Mourinho.

Michael Carrick has overseen 11 Premier League matches since Amorim was sacked and Man Utd have lost only twice under the 44-year-old Red Devils legend so far.
