5
Akash Vigneshwaran comes into the attack for India. Malhotra pulls another single away. George sweeps to pick up another brace.

Gamage gets another over, George pushes a single into the deep. Malhotra chips over the infield for a single.

Four! Delightful from George, steps down and chips the ball into the outfield for four. Picks the gap and gets two more. Pushes wide of cover and picks up another brace.

Productive over for India, 10 comes from it.

Chamuditha again, Malhotra rocks onto the back foot and pulls for one. George chips another single to the mid off region.

Two more singles are followed by two dots, four comes from the over.

Kavija Gamage is the new bowler for Sri Lanka. Starts well with three dots, but follows it with a half-tracker that Malhotra puts away for two. Followed by a single to fine leg.

Three from the over.

Nimsara gets a third over as a reward for his early spell. George looks to pull and gets hit on the splice of the bat, and it lands agonisingly short of mid on.

Six! Strays onto the pads, and Malhotra dismisses it powerfully over deep fine for six. Nimsara overcorrects and bowls a wide down leg side. Fortunate! Looks to cut and gets a thick edge that runs away for four. George cover drives for two more to end the over.

Viran Chamuditha enters the bowling attack, George picks a single up. Malhotra gets off the mark with a good-looking drive wide of mid off.

Tight over, just five runs from it.

Nimsara again, and Suryavanshi welcomes him with a hook shot for four! Followed up with a flatbat dead straight for four more! He’s ticking now.

What a comeback! Suryavanshi spoons it into the air and the captain takes the catch tracking back!

Vaibhav Suryavanshi c Vimath Dinsara b Rasith Nimsara 9 (6b 2x4 0x6)

New RCB boy Vihaan Malhotra walks out at three. He starts with three dots to end the over.

Seneviratne again, and he is welcomed by a glorious straight drive from George that flies all the way for six! George drives straight for one more.

Suryavanshi then gets off the mark with a drive through covers.

Rasith Nimsara from the other end. Gone! Mhatre falls cheaply again! Looks to pull over the leg side, and miscues it to midwicket.

Ayush Mhatre c Sanuja Niduwara b Rasith Nimsara 7 (8b 0x4 1x6)

Aaron George walks in at three. Gets off the mark with a single to mid on, if he had hit Suryavanshi might have been gone there!

Good start from Seneviratne, doesn’t allow Mhatre to free his arms and starts with four dots. Mhatre responds with a glorious straight drive that goes all the way for six. Mhatre gets a single to end the over.

Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi are out in the middle for India, while Sethmika Seneviratne has the ball for India.

Meanwhile, over in the other semifinal, Pakistan has skittled Bangladesh for 121 in the first innings, and has 27 overs to haul that total down. Abdul Suham’s four for 20 made him the pick of the bowlers, while Samiun Bashir’s 33 made him the top-scorer of the innings.

Excellent work from India, with a shortened game it has not allowed Sri Lanka to put a sizeable total on the board. It has its quicks to thank for that. The seamers were penetrative early on to dismiss the Sri Lankan top-order, and was aided by an excellent fielding display.

It could have been a whole lot less if not for the interventions of Sethmika Seneviratne and Chamika Heenatigala, who put on 50 to drag their side up to 138 for eight from its 20 overs.

India, with its power-packed batting lineup, will still back itself, but the game is alive now.

Henil Patel to close out the innings. Heenatigala carves over point for another pair of runs. He then sends it over cover for two to bring up the fifty partnership between this pair. Superb work from this duo. Henil goes for the wide yorker but cuts the tramline.

Out! The partnership is finally over. Heenatigala looks to go over the off side again, and ends up finding the sweeper perfectly.

Chamika Heenatigala c Kanishk Chouhan b Henil Patel 42 (38b 3x4 0x6)

Sanuja Ninduwara comes in with three ball to go. Henil nails the wide worker. Out! That’s a great catch from Suryavanshi! Ninduwara swings hard, but gets more height than distance. Suryavanshi tracks it from long on, and takes an excellent diving catch. Scratch that, it’s a no-ball, Henil has overstepped! Ninduwara misses the free hit, but the batters sneak a bye. Seneviratne sends the final ball high into the air, Henil tracks it and takes the catch himself!

Sethmike Seneviratne c & b Henil Patel 30 (22b 2x4 1x6)

Deepesh to close out his spell, Seneviratne gets two more through backward point. Chance goes down! Slower ball to Heenatigala, who skies it, but long on can’t get round to take the catch. The batters get two. Heenatigala slogs into the leg side for two more.

Seneviratne goes over covers for two more against Kishan. The batters exchange singles again. Kishan has found some success going short to Seneviratne rather than pitching the ball up.

Just four singles come from the over.

Henil Patel comes back, he has two overs left. Heenatigala carves away another single. Seneviratne pushes past point for one more. Heenatigala can only manage one more, he’s struggling for rhythm now.

Six! No such problem for Seneviratne, who flicks a low full toss away for six! Four! Followed up with a slash past point! Quick single to end the over, 14 from it.

Kishan again, a single from the first ball of the over brings up the 100 for Sri Lanka. Seneviratne gets two more. Guides the ball away for one more. Heenatigala sets off for a quick single, if point had hit the stumps it would have been out.

Deepesh returns. Outstanding execution of his yorkers from the bowler, who gets four dots in a row away at the batter.

Wide from the final ball of the over, and Heenatigala works the extra ball away for one.

Chouhan for his final over, strays a little too wide and Heenatigala chops it away for four. Chouhan finds Seneviratne’s outside edge, and the ball dribbles away for two runs.

Four! Oh, delightful shot from Seneviratne. Steps away and lofts it over covers for four.

Khilan for his final over, Heenatigala looks to slog-sweep, and Suryavanshi spills a stooping catch at midwicket! Gone now! Hilmy looks to cut, and Vedant Trivedi adds to his fielding highlights package with another excellent catch diving forward at point.

Aadham Hilmy c Vedant Trivedi b Khilan Patel 1 (3b 0x4 0x6)

Sethmika Seneviratne is the new batter.

Third straight over for Chouhan, and he has a wicket! Chouhan fires it in, and Dinsara’s attempted slog gets only height and no distance. Short third comes around and completes the catch.

Vimath Dinsara c Kishan Singh b Kanishk Chouhan 32 (29b 4x4 0x6)

Kithma Vithanapathirana, who batted in the top-order last match, is in. Six! What a shot to get off the mark, nails the slog sweep all the way. Goes again, but caught this time! Tries to repeat the shot, but gets nowhere near it. Cow corner settles himself and takes the catch.

Kithma Vithanapathirana c Khilan Patel b Kanishk Chouhan 7 (4b 0x4 1x6)

Aadham Hilmy is in at seven.

Khilan Patel again. The pair continues to exchange singles. Heenatigala is looking to muscle the ball over the leg side, but his shots have landed short of the deep fielders so far.

Four! Dinsara with more aggression, steps down the wicket and goes wide of long on.

Chouhan to continue. Four singles to start the over. Four! Clever batting from Dinsara, steps across and hoicks the ball past fine leg for a boundary.

Advances down the track and works it into the leg side for a single to end the over.

Khilan Patel to bowl his second over. Heenatigala pulls and brings up Sri Lanka’s fifty with a single. Dinsara attempts the switch-hit, and finds point. Reverts to a more classical approach and finds the sweeper. Four! Heenatigala slog-sweeps and it runs away for four.

Kanishk Chouhan comes into the attack, and Heenatigala cuts for one more. The batters are content to keep taking singles here.

Shot! Nicely placed sweep from Dinsara, and it runs away for four.

First sign of spin today, Khilan Patel enters the attack. Heenatigala works it off his pads for one. Dinsara sets off for yet another tight single, but the fielder can’t gather so the batters pinch one. Four! Much-needed four as Heenatigala sweeps uppishly and it runs away. Follows it up by cutting to the sweeper for one more.

Is there a runout here? Dinsara was nearly runout in the last over, and Gamage is out now as he sets off for another tight single but doesn’t make his ground as Vedant Trivedi nails down the stumps.

Kavija Gamage run out (Vedant Trivedi) 2 (4b 0x4 0x6)

Chamika Heenatigala comes to the crease and gets off the mark by carving Deepesh to the sweeper. Dinsara pinches two more. Dinsara cuts uppishly, and deep third does well to save two runs with a diving effort

Henil Patel again, Gamage edges to deep third for a single. Slight mix-up as Dinsara sets off for a single that isn’t there. The fielder misses the stumps and he survives.

Tight lines from Henil, and Dinsara can only tuck it away for a single. Sri Lanka hasn’t been able to get away here, only two from the over.

Deepesh Devendran comes into the attack, and Chamuditha tucks it off the hip for a single. Dinsara drops and runs a single into the off side. Four! Chamuditha plays the scoop, and it flies over the keeper for four again.

Falls next ball! Deepesh has his first of the day! On the hip, Chamuditha looks to swing it away, but is hurried by the pace of the ball and can only loop it to short fine.

Viran Chamuditha c Kishan Singh b Deepesh Devendran 19 (11b 3x4 1x6)

Kavija Gamage joins his skipper at the crease. He tucks away a single to get off the mark and end the PowerPlay.

A small revision by the third umpire, the second PowerPlay will last from overs 5-16, and the third from 17-20.

Kishan Singh continues, angling it across to the right-handed Sigera who lets it go. Out! The move to promote Sigera doesn’t work. He looks to drive straight, but cloths it straight to mid-on who comes around to take the catch.

Dulnith Sigera c Deepesh Devendran b Kishan Singh 1 (7b 0x4 0x6)

Captain Vimath Dinsara is in at three. Four! Gets off the mark with a well-timed cut shot that beats the diving deep third.

Henil Patel takes the new ball from the other end, bowling to Sigera. More confident start than his partner, defends the first two balls. Sigera looks to drive, and is beaten on the outside edge.

Sigera scores the first confident runs of the day, pushing wide of mid off for a single. Four! What a shot, Chamuditha finds his range and picks it up over the leg side for four more. Four more! Even better, punched off the back foot through covers. The ball slows down in the outfield, but just about runs away.

Peach from Kishan to Chamuditha to start! Perfect delivery just moves gently away past the outside edge, the batter does well to keep his edge out of the way. Replicates it next ball! Excellent start. Three in a row, Kishan is toying with the batter here.

Chamuditha finally lays bat on ball from the fourth delivery, defended into the off side. Beats the under edge from the fifth ball! Six! Wow, what a way to get off the mark! Chamuditha steps across his stumps and looks to pull, he gets a thick top edge that flies high into the air and over the keeper’s head for a maximum!

An early curveball from Sri Lanka, perhaps in response to the shortened match. Dulnith Sigera, primarily a middle-order batter, will be opening with Viran Chamuditha.

Kishan Singh will take the new ball for India.

Sanuja Niduwara, Viran Chamuditha, Kithma Vithanapathirana, Kavija Gamage, Vimath Dinsara (captain), Chamika Heenatigala, Dulnith Sigera, Aadham Hilmy (wk), Sethmika Seneviratne, Rasith Nimsara, Akash Vigneswaran.

Ayush Mhatre (captain), Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Aaron George, Vihaan Malhotra, Vedant Trivedi, Abhigyan Kundu (wk), Kanishk Chouhan, Khilan Patel, Henil Patel, Deepesh Devendran, Kishan Singh.

The game may have been reduced to 20 overs, but that does not mean that we have playing conditions identical to the a T20.

The first Powerplay will be just four overs in this game, with the second going from overs 5-15, and the final from 16-20.

The news from the ICC Academy Ground is that Ayush Mhatre has won the toss and India will be fielding first!

A reminder, play will be 20-overs-a-side, and will begin at 3:35PM IST.

We will have a game! The Asian Cricket Council confirms that we will have a 20-overs-a-side game from 2:02PM local time (3:32PM IST).

The toss will be at 1:35PM local time (3:05PM IST).

While we wait for an update (it’s not looking good for hopes of a match), an update from the other semifinal where both Bangladesh openers are back in the shed. Ali Reza and Mohammad Sayyam have claimed a wicket each.

Bangladesh is currently 24 for two after six overs.

There is more news from the Sevens Stadium, where the length of the semifinal has been confirmed. It will be a 27-overs-a-side game for Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Pakistan has won the toss and opted to chase.

An interesting update from the other semifinal, where the toss has taken place! Pakistan has opted to field first, we’re now waiting for confirmation on how many overs have been lost there.

As it stands though, we have a match on our hands in at least one semifinal.

Cautiously positive news, the stumps have been put into the ground and both teams are out on the ground.

Some cautiously optimistic news from Dubai, where the covers have come off! The wet patches on the outfield remain, but the Indian team has also arrived!

There remains work to be done though, and the cutoff time for a match is 2:02 PM local time (3:32 PM IST).

If you’re looking to pass the time while waiting for an update, the India men’s senior side will be looking to close out its five-match T20I series with a win against South Africa in Ahmedabad tonight.

Read Ashwin Achal’s match preview here.

IND vs SA, 5th T20I Preview: India looks to close out South African visit with series win

The fifth and final T20I in Ahmedabad on Friday presents India with the chance to salvage a positive at the end of a testing South Africa visit to these shores.

The other semifinal between Pakistan and Bangladesh remains in the same position as this match.

It would be rather frustrating if neither semifinal were to see any action at all.

IPL chairman Arun Dhumal sat down with Sportstar after the recently-concluded IPL auction. Read that interview here:

Arun Dhumal: Difficult for BCCI to organise Indian venue for auction sometimes for marriage season is in full flow

Arun Dhumal discusses IPL auction challenges, player opportunities, and the league's growth amidst logistical hurdles and stakeholder convenience.

Unfortunately, no positive update from Dubai just yet. The rain has stopped but there are still wet patches, so felt has been placed over them. Worryingly, the clouds have returned to threaten more rain.

We’ve almost certainly started losing overs now. Indian coach Hrishikesh Kanitkar confirms that the Indian team is still in the hotel, and will come to the ground once the management gets word about a start time from the umpires.

We’re scheduled to have an update on the state of play soon, so stay with us!

While India was thrashing Malaysia on Tuesday, two of its players earned their maiden IPL deals. Kanishk Chouhan, Player of the Match against Pakistan, and vice-captain Vihaan Malhotra were both snapped up by defending champion Royal Challengers Bengaluru. If they make their debuts in the 2026 season, they will become the third and fourth players in this team to do so after Ayush Mhatre and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.

RCB Squad 2026: Full Player List After IPL Mini Auction

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s updated squad for IPL 2026 after the mini auction. Full list of retained players and new buys.

There isn’t much better news from The Sevens Stadium either, where there is no update on the Pakistan vs Bangladesh semifinal either.

Remember, if that match is washed out then Bangladesh goes through courtesy of a better performance in the group stage.

Hopefully it won’t come to this, but should today be washed out, India would go through to the final on Sunday by virtue of its position as table-topper of Group A. From the other semifinal (where rain has also delayed play), Bangladesh would go through as table-topper of Group B.

U-19 Asia Cup 2025: What happens if the India vs Sri Lanka semifinal is washed out?

Here is what happens if the India vs Sri Lanka U-19 Asia Cup semifinal is washed out.

Mixed news from the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. The good news is that the rain has stopped, and the Sri Lankan team is out on the ground kicking a football around. The bad news is that although the covers briefly came off, they’ve come gone back on now. There are a couple of problem patches around the 30-yard circle that look especially worrying.

The umpires will conduct another inspection at 11 AM local time (12:30 PM IST).

We’re ten minutes away from an inspection in Dubai. Earlier visuals from the broadcaster seemed to indicate that the rain has stopped and the outfield was being tended to, but it remains to be seen what the update from the ICC Academy Ground is.

Confirmation that plenty of rain overnight has led to the delay. The rain seems to have stopped for now, but conditions are soaking wet.

We await a start time.

Some early bad news as the toss, which was slated to take place at 10:00AM, has been delayed. This is likely due to rain, although we await official confirmation on this.

Both semifinals are slated to take place in parallel today, with the winners taking their place in Sunday’s final at the ICC Academy Ground. The two semifinals today are:

India vs Sri Lanka - ICC Academy Ground

Pakistan vs Bangladesh - The Sevens Stadium
