Luther Burden injury, fantasy football fallout: What it means for 2026 drafts

Luther Burden III was on top of everyone's fantasy football sleepers lists as Chicago Bears started training camp. It felt certain that the former second-round talent would have the kind of upside for a lot of work.

And now? The wideout is expected to miss the rest of training camp after a strained groin in practice, but as ESPN's Adam Schefter noted, "The Bears believe he should be back for the team's regular-season opener vs. the Panthers, per sources."

That's a relief for the Bears. But what does it mean for Burden and fantasy football managers? Let's discuss all of that below.

Fantasy football managers should be nervous about Luther Burden

Here's the thing about injuries like hamstrings and groins: You don't want to mess around. The risk for reinjury is there and a player can be hobbled even if they're resting for a month. Add in a lack of training camp reps and you have to knock down Burden's draft value more. He might have been a pick in the fifth or sixth round, but I might shy away from that with this latest update and take him later than that, in the WR32-WR40 range.

The hope is the rest will help him be completely healthy for Week 1, but there's a lot more risk baked in. That doesn't mean "do not draft," though!
