Sources: Arsenal close to signing 'two players in one' as deal all but done

Arsenal will have excellent right-back and centre-back cover when they complete a deal for Aston Villa's Ezri Konsa, sources have told Football Insider.

The London giants are closing in on a deal for the England international, with Football Insider revealing on Friday the transfer is "99 per cent done".

Arsenal had a £30million bid for his services rejected earlier in the window, but as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, they are set to make a new move to sign him soon as he is a top transfer priority.

The Villans are set to stand in the way of him leaving as the new season edges ever closer.

Konsa was a mainstay in the England team at the World Cup after featuring 48 times for Villa across all competitions last season.

His quality is undoubted, and the Gunners are keen to add him to their backline to cover various positions as they look to defend their league title this season.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Arsenal are seriously interested in Konsa and would like to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.

"Obviously, he's so versatile and can play centre-back and right back, and that would fill a bit of a problem area for Arsenal now with William Saliba injured and Jurrien Timber still working his way back to fitness as well."
