Somerset disabled cricket team reaches national semi-final in second season

Somerset Disabled Cricket Club have reached the national semi-finals of the ECB South West D40 League in only their second season, following an outstanding league campaign.

The Somerset side topped the league after winning all but one of their fixtures, securing a place in the semi-final where they will face Yorkshire on Wednesday, 19 August at Kidderminster CC.

The achievement represents a significant milestone for a club that is still relatively young, with the D40 team now firmly establishing itself within the national disability cricket programme.

There have been a number of impressive individual performances throughout the campaign.

Young debutant Oli currently leads the team's run-scoring charts with 179 runs.

Oli has enjoyed an excellent season with the bat, averaging 59 runs per innings and striking at 117.

Jacob is also batting excellently and has contributed an outstanding 132 runs.

With the ball, another young player is shining, Joe.

He has taken 12 wickets from 27 overs, including an outstanding 11 maidens, with his best bowling figures of the campaign standing at 4 for 8.

While the statistics highlight the individual performances, the semi-final place is a reflection of the collective effort behind the team.

Players, parents, carers, coaches, and volunteers have all played an important role in supporting the club, helping create an environment in which players can develop their cricket and compete at a national level.

For Somerset Disabled CC, reaching the semi-final in only their second season represents a tremendous achievement and provides an exciting opportunity to take another step forward.

The Somerset Cricket Foundation continues to deliver a wide-ranging disability cricket programme, supporting young people from the age of 12 upwards and providing opportunities for people with disabilities to participate, develop, and compete in cricket.

The Foundation is also keen to hear from businesses and organisations that may be interested in supporting the disability cricket programme, either through partnership, volunteering, or financial support.
