Arne Slot is not the most popular figure in the Everton half of Merseyside.

However, the former Liverpool manager may have already shared exactly why target Jacob Murphy would improve Everton.

The Blues have been linked to the Newcastle forward as they look to push on to qualify for European football next season.

Everton are still looking to bring Jack Grealish back to Hill Dickinson Stadium, but the Toffees need plenty more in attack.

Murphy has been a Premier League-proven attacker for quite a few years, and could help boost the numbers.

And he would also aid in solving a problem that faces the L3 outfit heading into next season.

What did Arne Slot say about Jacob Murphy?

Last season, Slot mentioned that Liverpool did not have a player like Murphy in their squad.

It was a comment that did not go down well with Everton's bitter rivals' fanbase, but those words could show why Murphy is perfect for the Blues.

Everton are interested in bringing Murphy to Merseyside ahead of next season, which could be exactly what they need.

Speaking in a press conference before facing Leeds United in December 2025, Slot said: "It makes it harder for [Isak] compared to his time at Newcastle but I think it is also him adjusting to his teammates and his teammates adjusting to him.

"But it is obvious and clear that we have not the profile of Jacob Murphy, for example, available at this moment at this time."

While Slot's reputation among Liverpool fans continued to fade, his suggestion on Murphy only further hurt it.

But, looking beyond the words, his assertion of Murphy could make him the perfect fit for the Toffees.

Why it now looks like Newcastle are willing to let Jacob Murphy join Everton Why Everton could do with a player like Murphy

The comments about Murphy from Slot were to state that he is a winger that has a focus first on supplying the striker.

At Everton, creating chances has often been a struggle and with a profile like the Englishman's they could look to solve that problem.

Last season, Everton were 15th for shots on target per match, they were 15th for big chances created and 15th for touches in the opposition box as per FotMob.

For Newcastle last season, Murphy created more big chances than anyone else in Eddie Howe's squad.

Meanwhile, his total of 10 would have placed him joint-second at Everton alongside Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and two behind James Garner.

So, while Slot was mocked by Liverpool fans for his assessment of Murphy, he may have accidentally gave the very reason that Everton need a player like the Englishman.
