Redlynch & Hale 1sts suffer back-to-back defeats as 2nds continue winning ways

Redlynch & Hale 1st XI slipped to consecutive defeats in an exciting home game with league leaders Totton & Eling.

Despite the defeat, the hosts remain in contention for promotion.

An opening stand of 114 led the way for the visitors to post 231-8 as Kev Hopkins' 3-41 was the pick of the attack, with two apiece for Will Hewlett and George Hayes.

Ian Tanner (70) and Nathan Pollard (36) did well, but R&H were always behind the run rate.

Three wickets each for Yanis Dibden and Archie Lewis made life difficult, and although a spirited knock from Harvey Boardman (40) took the hosts close, they were finally stopped 22 runs short.

The club's second string, however, continued its winning ways at Totton & Eling 3rds, where the hosts were restricted to 151 as Dom Sell claimed 4-26 and Stan Boardman 3-30.

But things looked bad in the subsequent run chase as the visitors slumped to 57-7 before a match-winning stand of 97 between Sell (62*) and Tom Padwick (40*) ensured a three-wicket win, consolidating third place in their league.

At Hatchet Green, Hale, the third team fielded no fewer than three ladies in the game against Godshill, with Emily Otton claiming two wickets as Godshill posted an unreachable 279-7, with Shaun Marlow scoring 105.

Sadly, the third XI had no answer to this and were stopped on just 143.

Despite this, it was a very good game played exactly in the right spirit.
