Arsenal could be set for a financial windfall as a summer transfer agreement with Newcastle United nears

Arsenal could be set for a huge financial boost thanks to a clever transfer clause as part of Joe Willock's move to Newcastle United.

Football.london understands the Gunners agreed a sell-on clause with the Magpies as part of his move to St. James' Park back in 2021.

The 26-year-old left the Emirates Stadium in a deal worth £25million having impressed on a loan spell with the Magpies, but his five-year stint in the North East could be coming to an end.

Willock is now closing in on a £17.4m move to Turkish Super Lig side Besiktas, with Newcastle already rejecting a £10m earlier this summer.

Our sister title ChronicleLive claims Willock's agent has been in Turkey to discuss a move to with Besiktas, allegedly agreeing personal terms.

The former Arsenal midfielder is now in the final 12 months of his contract at St. James' Park and Newcastle are looking to cash in.

That's good news for the Gunners, who have a sell-on clause agreed, though the exact percentage of that fee is unclear. Willock has made 168 appearances for Newcastle, scoring 11 goals since leaving the Emirates Stadium.

He broke into the Arsenal first team back in 2017 and actually scored on his Premier League debut against Newcastle in April 2018.

Willock made 78 appearances and scored 11 goals across four seasons at the club. The clause now means Mikel Arteta's side are set to benefit financially.

The Gunners are looking to strengthen their squad ahead of their Premier League title defence, having signed Christos Tzolis, Piero Hincapie, Illan Meslier and Bruno Guimaraes.

The extra finances will be a boost in their pursuit of new additions this summer, with Arsenal on the lookout for a new left-winger.

The Gunners have been linked with moves for Morgan Rogers and Vinicius Junior, but Chelsea swopped in to sign the England internaitonal, while Real Madrid agreed new terms with the Brazilian star.
