Liverpool to send first offer for Ibrahim Mbaye 'in the coming days'

According to reports from France, Liverpool will soon submit an opening offer for a teenage ‘phenomenon’ who’s been on their radar this summer.

In addition to the much-publicised pursuit of Bradley Barcola, the Reds have also been linked with fellow Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye.

Fabrizio Romano claimed earlier this week that, having spoken with the 18-year-old’s agent Jorge Mendes, Anfield chiefs deemed the teenager ‘too expensive’ overall, but it would appear that a move for the Senegal international isn’t dead in the water just yet.

Loic Tanzi reported for L’Equipe that Liverpool are expected to send a first bid to PSG for Mbaye in the coming days.

The journalist didn’t specify a price point for this anticipated opening offer, although French writer Sebastien Vidal has cited an asking price of €50m (£42.8m) from the Champions League holders.

Mbaye move remains a firm possibility for Liverpool

There appears to have been mixed messages regarding the likelihood of the Reds pursuing a move for Mbaye, but this latest report would suggest that it remains a possibility before the 1 September deadline.

Unlike Barcola, the 18-year-old may be largely unproven at the highest level – he’s played just over 1,500 minutes of first-team football for PSG, scoring only four times – but even that is quite the accomplishment given his tender age and the Parisians’ status as back-to-back European champions.

Hailed as a ‘phenomenon‘ by his former Senegal coach Pape Thiaw, the teenager would give Liverpool another natural right-sided attacker to go along with Federico Chiesa, whose future at Anfield remains the subject of considerable speculation.

If the Merseyside hierarchy are serious about trying to sign Mbaye, we’d expect that their proposed opening offer would be close to the aforementioned £42.8m, considering how high a ceiling he seems to have.

All things considered, that figure doesn’t seem excessive for the PSG starlet, certainly not when the Reds’ right-sided options are anything but overflowing.
