ND vs AUCK Match Prediction & Analysis

Northern Brave gear up for their opening match of Super Smash against the Auckland Aces at Seddon Park in Hamilton. One of their two matches at this venue last season was washed out, while in the other match, Northern Brave chased down a 188-run target with 5 wickets in hand.

Can Jeet Raval-led Brave continue their dominance over the Aces? Katene Clarke, Joe Carter, and Tim Seifert will be the key batters in this lineup. Robert O'Donnell was the best batter for the side in their previous encounter against Auckland and will be a key middle-order batsman to watch out for.

Auckland Aces have brought Rohit Gulati into the squad for this season. The right-arm offbreak bowler picked up 10 wickets in a Plunket Shield match against Northern Districts last month. He will join right-arm legbreak Adi Ashok in the spin-bowling department.

Cam Fletcher and Martin Guptill are the key players in the batting lineup to watch out for in this squad. While Mark Chapman hasn’t made it to the squad, Auckland still looks pretty solid as far as the batting is concerned.

HEAD TO HEAD

TEAMS PREVIEW

Northern Brave Preview

There is plenty of firepower in this batting lineup. The top 4 failed to deliver consistently towards the business end of the league last year. Openers Katene Clarke and Joe Carter have a key role to play for Northern Brave.

They must get the side off to a flying start. This is crucial, especially at this venue, where the pitch offers plenty of help for the batters in both innings. A good start will put Northern Brave on track for a big score.

However, with Tim Seifert also an option, Northern Brave could have a different opening combination. They have the reliable Robert O'Donnell and Brett Hampton in the middle order. These two can build strong partnerships and also deliver a good finish.

Skipper Jeet Raval is also pretty handy lower down the order and can play the finisher’s role for the team. Neil Wagner will lead the pace attack for Northern Brave. He will be supported by other medium pacers like Kristian Clarke and Matthew Fisher.

Mitchell Santner and Tim Pringle are the spin-bowling options for Jeet Raval to consider. They also have Scott Kuggeleijn and Tim Pringle this season to add more variety to the bowling department. Hampton is a key all-rounder in this squad who delivers with both bat and ball and is one to watch out for.

Northern Brave Predicted Playing XI:

Katene D Clarke, Joe Carter, Tim Seifert (wk), Robert O'Donnell, Mitchell Santner, Brett Hampton, Jeet Raval (c), Kristian Clarke, Neil Wagner, Tim Pringle, Matthew Fisher

Auckland Aces Preview

Can Sean Solia and co. turn things around this year? Auckland Aces finished last in the points table in the last edition of the Super Smash, winning only 3 of their 10 matches. Ryan Harrison joins the squad this year and will likely replace Chapman in the top order.

Sean Solia has a great, attacking opening partner in Simon Keene. We expect him to deliver a strong start in the powerplay. With Martin Guptill also part of the squad, the Aces have another option for the opening batter.

Guptill could open the innings with Keene, while the skipper can send himself down to number 3. It will be a solid top order with these 3 batters, and they will come out with an attacking approach.

In the middle order, Bevon Jacobs will not have the company of William O Donnell this season. As such, Ryan Harrison would likely feature in the middle order, followed by the reliable Cam Fletcher, who can deliver a strong finish to propel the Aces to a competitive total.

Angus Olliver, Dale Phillips, and Harjot Johal will be leading the bowling attack for the Aces. Adi Ashok and Rohit Gulati will be the key spin-bowling options in this squad to watch out for. Batting all-rounder Simon Keene is also a handy option in the bowling department.

Auckland Aces Predicted Playing XI:

Simon Keene, Sean Solia (c), Mark Chapman, Bevon Jacobs, Ryan Harrison, Martin Guptill, Cam Fletcher (wk), Lachlan Stackpole, Rohit Gulati, Angus Olliver, Adithya Ashok

PITCH AND WEATHER CONDITIONS

Weather Conditions

There is light rain expected around noon but by the time of the match, we expect only cloudy weather and no rain. The start of the match could be delayed but we will likely have a complete match.

ND vs AUCK Pitch Report

It is a grassy pitch that offers plenty of help for the batters and gets slower as the match progresses. However, in a short-format game, it will likely stay the same in both innings. The average first innings score in the last 10 T20 matches is 157 runs. However, for a winning total, the team batting first should aim for something over 185 runs in this game.
