Tennis Star Bernard Tomic Facing Backlash For Throwing Away Match vs. Cam Norrie

Tennis fans were truly disgusted by Thursday night's match between Cam Norrie and Bernard Tomic.

Tomic, the No. 171-ranked lucky loser, shocked fans earlier in the Mifel Tennis Open by upsetting Karen Khachanov in straight sets. Some people thought that win would give the four-time ATP Tour champion some much-needed confidence heading into his showdown with Norrie.

Unfortunately, Tomic had no answer for Norrie in Los Cabos. In fact, he was handed a 6-1, 6-0 loss in a match that lasted just 50 minutes.

"I'm pleased with the result. I was very solid, I returned well, I made a lot of tough balls when I needed to, and I kept him moving," Norrie said. "I enjoyed the match, and it's nice to go to bed a little bit earlier."

Fans who watched Norrie and Tomic's match, however, weren't pleased with the result.

There was one particular service game in the first set were Tomic clearly had zero interest in actually competing against Norrie. It was as if he was ready to pack his bags and just get on with his night.

While there's zero indication that Tomic will be punished for his performance, fans believe he should receive a suspension.

"Should get a ban for this," one fan said.

"That was one of the worst or suspicious matches I've ever witnessed," a second fan wrote. "Need more regulation on gambling."

"Such a clown, there should be a rule that the empire could just eject them from the court with this kind of attitude," another fan commented. "Waste of time of the other player, crowd, umpire, ball kids, etc…."

"I'll be honest at some point you have throw out fines for this," another tennis fan declared.

Tomic, who hasn't won an ATP title since 2018, has not responded to any of the online backlash.
