'Blindfolded' football match to be held to raise funds for Sight for Wight

A blindfolded football match will take place in memory of a much-loved Isle of Wight resident, to raise money for Sight For Wight.

The charity game, organised by Moses Lancaster and his friends, will be held on Saturday, August 22 from 2pm to 4pm at Victoria Recreation Ground in Newport.

The event is in memory of Moses's grandmother, Rene Badger, who was supported for 30 years by Sight for Wight, a charity that offers support to Islanders living with sight loss.

The event will raise funds for the charity through a raffle, cake sale, and donations.

Outfield players will play a 20-minute football match blindfolded, while goalkeepers will be fully sighted.

The ball will be audible with a bell or rattle inside and players shout 'voy', Spanish for 'I'm going', when they go in for a tackle.

Attendees are encouraged to support the event and cheer on the participants - but keep quiet during play!

Moses and his friends hope the fundraiser will not only raise money but also awareness of the challenges faced by those living with sight loss.
