Manchester United defender Sonny Aljofree has seemingly confirmed that he will be leaving the club this summer

Sonny Aljofree has posted an emotional farewell message as the defender announces his departure from Manchester United. The 21-year-old has posted the message days before United’s season officially comes to an end with the final day of the Premier League season on Sunday, where they face an away trip to Brighton.

The summer transfer window is fast approaching, and there could be several changes made to United’s squad in the form of several departures, as well as new signings.

Even though the season is not yet complete, Aljofree has seemingly confirmed that he will be leaving Old Trafford this summer.

“After 14 years at this amazing football club, my second home, and the place I’ve grown from a boy to man,” Aljofree posted on Instagram.

“I can’t thank the staff, players and everybody who has helped me enough for everything they have helped me with throughout my time.

“I’ve made brothers for life and I will always appreciate what this club have given me. I wish everybody at the club the absolute best.

“Ready to kick on and keep growing as a person and as a player. Once a red, always a red.”

Several United players took the opportunity to send a message to Aljofree in the comments, with Kobbie Mainoo writing, ‘All the best bro’.

Harry Amass wrote ‘Good luck, bro’, while 2025 signing Diego Leon also wrote ‘The best for you, hermano’. Shea Lacey added, ‘All the best my brother,’ while Toby Collyer left a red love heart emoji.

Aljofree is yet to make a first-team appearance for United this season, with a departure this summer expected to give the defender an opportunity to get more minutes in senior football.

The 21-year-old was called up to United’s first-team training session back in April following the club’s lack of available centre-back options.

Aljofree was training with the first team ahead of United’s 2-1 win over Brentford in the Premier League, but was not included in the matchday squad by head coach Michael Carrick.

The defender has spent the majority of the last two seasons on loan away from United, spending last season at Accrington Stanley, where he made 27 appearances across all competitions and scored three goals.

Aljofree also spent the first half of this season on loan at League Two club Notts County, making 11 appearances and scoring one goal before returning to United during the January transfer window.
