Derry City part ways with manager Tiernan Lynch

Derry City have parted ways with under-pressure manager Tiernan Lynch.

The Candystripes are currently languishing in sixth position in the Premier Division having gone into the season with high expectations following a raft of high-profile signings, including former Republic of Ireland 100-cap man, James McClean.

McClean and the now departed Lynch have clashed publicy in recent weeks, with the 35-year-old winger taking to social media to voice his displeasure at the goings on at the Brandywell.

This week, on the RTÉ Soccer podcast, stand-in host Alan Cawley and guests Keith Treacy and Paul Corry delved into the turmoil at Derry and agreed that matters seemed to be coming to a head.

Lynch's final game in charge turned out to be last Sunday's spiritied 1-1 draw away to St Patrick's Athletic.

Derry play Sligo Rovers at home this Friday night.

Mark Connolly will step in on an interim basis.

A statement from the club read: "Derry City Football Club can confirm that it has today parted company with First Team Manager Tiernan Lynch.

"The club would like to place on record its sincere thanks to Tiernan for his professionalism, commitment and hard work during his time at Derry City.

"Mark Connnolly will assume responsibility for first team affairs on an interim basis."
