Wimbledon 2026: Fery Wins, Swiatek & Rybakina Advance

Defending champion Iga Swiatek and World No. 2 Elena Rybakina have reached the third round of the Wimbledon Tennis Championship being played in London. In the women's singles category, Poland's star Iga defeated Karolina Pliskova in straight sets 6-1, 6-3 in 69 minutes. Meanwhile, Kazakhstan's Rybakina defeated America's Katie McNally 6-1, 6-2 in just 71 minutes.

In the men's singles category, Arthur Fery defeated Finland's Otto Virtanen 5-7, 7-6, 6-3, 6-3. He is the only British player in Round 3. The rest have been eliminated from the early rounds. In other matches in this category, Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov defeated Czech Republic's Jakub Mensik in a tough four-set match, where he will face Italy's Matteo Berrettini.

‘I am happy with my performance’: Iga Swiatek

After the match, Swiatek said, “Today I felt quite stable. The first round was very emotional, but today it felt like a normal day at the office, where I had to make the right decisions. I am very happy with my performance and focus.”

Iga Swiatek defeated former finalist Karolina Pliskova in straight sets 6-1, 6-3.

Rybakina's match will be against Mertens

Kazakhstan's 2022 Wimbledon champion Elena Rybakina defeated America's Katie McNally on centre court in just 71 minutes. She had to struggle for 3 sets against France's Lois Boisson in her first-round match. But she made no mistakes in the second round. Now in the third round, she will face Belgium's Elise Mertens.

Arthur Fery Britain's last hope in men's singles

23-year-old Arthur is Britain's last hope in this championship. He was born in Paris to French parents, but when he was very young, his family moved to Wimbledon.

Fery represented France until he was about 10 years old, but after that, he joined the British tennis system (LTA). Fery, who studied Science and Technology at Stanford University in California, has now become completely British.

Fery said on his success, “I grew up watching this Wimbledon tournament. As a child, I used to imitate players and today I am winning a match here, this feeling is amazing. Now I feel completely British at heart.”

Fery's mother, Olivia, herself was a former French Fed Cup player, and his father, Loc, owns the French football club Lorient.

Grigor Dimitrov defeated Jakub Mensik to advance to the next round

35-year-old Grigor Dimitrov defeated 15th seed Jakub Mensik 7-6, 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 to advance to the next round. During the match, the court's roof had to be closed due to rain. During this time, Dimitrov was reminded of last year, when he was injured and forced to withdraw from his match against Jannik Sinner on Centre Court.

After the win, Dimitrov said, “I looked up at the roof four or five times. I thought history might repeat itself, but all that is behind me now. The love I receive at Wimbledon is what makes it special for me.”

Disappointing Performance by British Doubles Pairs

While Arthur Fery kept Britain's hopes alive in singles, the doubles court brought disappointment for the home fans. The pair of Katie Boulter and Heather Watson saved 4 match points in the second set tie-breaker, but ultimately lost 6-4, 6-7, 6-3 to Poland's Katarzyna Piter and Czech Republic's Anna Siskova.

Additionally, all six British women's doubles pairs, including Olivia Nicholls, Jodie Burrage, and Harriet Dart, were eliminated in the first round. However, in men's doubles, top players like Henry Patten and Neal Skupski have advanced to the second round.
