Matildas captain Sam Kerr capped off her six-year Chelsea career with a match-winning worldie during Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge.In the 33rd minute her 158th and final appearances for the Blues, the 32-year-old volleyed a cross from Lauren James past the goalkeeper to equal Fran Kirby’s all-time goal-scoring record at the club.Kerr, who already held the Chelsea record for most Women’s Super League goals, has scored 116 times across all competitions since her debut for the West London club in 2020.Get all the latest football news, highlights and analysis delivered straight to your inbox with Fox Sports Sportmail. Sign up now >“It was an amazing day, kind of fitting to play against Man United, a team I’ve scored so many of my favourite goals against, and to score one like that today was awesome,” Kerr said after the game.“It’s also fitting I end level with Fran after we played some pretty good football together. But I mean, every goal to me for this club is special. I enjoyed every minute today.“It’s just, honestly, the biggest honour to play for this club, and I have so many amazing memories which I’ll carry with me forever.”Kerr appeared from the sheds with her one-year-old son Jagger, receiving a guard of honour alongside departing captain Millie Bright.“He’s born in Chelsea, so it’s kind of cute, and a nice little finish, but it was special to walk out with him and have my family here,” she said.“A really sad day, but happy day, I guess. It’s going to be hard to leave, but I’ve only good things to say about the club and the people here.”Kerr also thanked the fans in attendance, addressing the crowd: “Thank you to everyone who I’ve played with since I’ve been representing you guys.“Week in, week out, every single minute for you guys. I’ve had some great personal memories both on and off the pitch, so thank you to all of you. Hopefully, you support me wherever I go.”Kerr is yet to announce where she will play next season, although the Australian superstar is rumoured to be returning to America’s NWSL, where she played from 2013 to 2019 and was twice named the league’s MVP.Chelsea finished third on the WSL standings to book their spot in next season’s Women’s Champions League.
