Pakistani Fast Bowler Joins Wasim Akram and Imran Khan With Unique Record in Test Cricket

Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad Abbas reached another major milestone after completing 100 Test wickets away from home during the second Test against Bangladesh in Sylhet.

The experienced seamer achieved the landmark when Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto edged behind on the opening day of the match. It was Mohammad Abbas’ third wicket of the innings after he had already removed openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Tanzid Hasan.

With the milestone, Mohammad Abbas became only the sixth Pakistani pacer to take 100 wickets in away Tests, joining an elite list that includes Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, Imran Khan, Mohammad Amir, and Umar Gul.

What makes the feat even more impressive is his average. Among Pakistani fast bowlers with more than 100 away Test wickets, Abbas has the best bowling average, conceding just 23.02 runs per wicket.

Overall, Mohammad Abbas now has 109 Test wickets in 51 innings, underlining just how heavily his red-ball success has come outside Pakistan. Only nine of his Test wickets have come at home since he made his debut in 2017.

The 36-year-old had already entered the second Test in strong form after taking six wickets in the series opener, including a five-wicket haul in the first innings.

He made an immediate impact in Sylhet as well, dismissing Joy off just the second ball of the match when the opener was caught at second slip. Abbas struck again in the 10th over to remove debutant Tanzid Hasan and later added Shanto to his tally to bring up the landmark.
