FORMER South African tennis star Kevin Anderson has revealed that a relative of his died following a home invasion in Mzansi.Though Anderson did not say where the attack occurred, he shared some details of the incident through a BackaBuddy link. The attack took place on April 4, in which Anderson’s cousin Bruce Franck was “brutally attacked in his home in South Africa. Despite the extraordinary efforts of the medical team caring for him in intensive care, he succumbed to his injuries on April 16th”.The BackaBuddy campaign aims to raise R750,000 for the family of Franck, and was already close to 75 percent of the target.Anderson said on Facebook: “A few days ago, our family experienced something devastating. My cousin Bruce was attacked in his home and did not survive. He leaves behind his two children, Alex and Savannah.“Bruce was very dear to me. One of my strongest memories is having him there during my run to the finals at Wimbledon. I'll always carry that with me.”The 39-year-old Anderson, who reached a career high of fifth on the ATP rankings, hoped he could help raise funds for the family of Franck.“Several of you have asked if there is any way to help. A fundraiser has been set up to support Alex and Savannah as they navigate what comes next. If you're able to contribute or share, it would mean a great deal to our family.“More than anything, I ask that you keep them in your thoughts.”The Backabuddy account added: “Bruce was a father first and foremost, deeply devoted to his two children, Alex, aged 18, and Savanah, aged 16, who will now face life without him.“Those who know the family will understand, perhaps more than anyone, the magnitude of what his children have lost - a father who understood, supported and loved them with everything he had.“As a family, we are determined to do everything in our power to ensure that both children are given the stability and opportunity their father would have wanted for them.“With that purpose in mind, I am organising this effort to create a financial foundation for their years ahead. All funds raised will go directly towards the care, education, and needs of Alex and Savanah.“In his absence, our focus is on honouring his life by ensuring his children are supported and able to step forward into the future he would have wanted for them. We are deeply grateful for any support, including simply sharing this page.“While nothing will change what has happened, or the collective grief we feel, we can carry forward the love and care he gave to those he loved most.”
