Bolton v Preston sold out as extra police powers imposed

Bolton Wanderers have confirmed that today's fixture is officially sold out and have urged fans not to travel unless they have a ticket.

Greater Manchester Police has authorised enhanced powers around the stadium and surrounding areas as part of its match-day operation.

The measures allow officers to stop and search people within a designated area, as well as direct individuals to leave if necessary.

Police say the powers will support a wider policing plan that includes additional officers around the stadium, transport hubs and key routes before, during and after the game.

Chief Superintendent Dave Meeney, Greater Manchester Police's Gold Commander for the match, said officers had been working with both clubs and supporters ahead of the fixture.

He said: "We have been engaging with supporters from both clubs in the lead-up to the fixture to ensure everyone can enjoy the occasion safely.

"The vast majority of fans attend football matches to support their team and enjoy the atmosphere, and we want them to be able to do so without disruption.

"We have put a comprehensive policing plan in place, including additional officers around the stadium, transport hubs, and key routes in and out of Bolton.

"The Section 60 and Section 34 orders will provide officers with additional powers to respond quickly to any incidents of violence, disorder, or anti-social behaviour.

"These powers will also allow officers to ask fans to remove face coverings.

"We would ask supporters to plan their journeys, allow extra time for travel, and follow the advice of officers and stewards.

"Those who choose to engage in criminality or anti-social behaviour should expect to be dealt with robustly."

The Section 60 and Section 34 powers came into force at 9am and are due to remain in place until 6pm, although they can be extended if required.

Today's match kicks off at 12.15pm.

The club have told supporters that the game is sold out and urged anyone without a ticket not to travel to the stadium.
