Tennis world No. 1 Jannik Sinner has advanced to the Italian Open final after beating Daniil Medvedev 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 in a rain-delayed semi-final on Saturday (16 May).

The match had originally begun on Friday, with Sinner cruising through the opening set before Medvedev fought back in the second, breaking in the 12th game to set up a deciding third.

With the rain falling late into the evening, officials decided to suspend the match until the following day.

When play resumed on Saturday, the day's action was over almost as quickly as it had begun. Medvedev managed to save two match points, but Sinner closed the door moments later, wrapping up the win after only 15 minutes back on court.

He will now face Casper Ruud in the final on Sunday (17 May), who ended Italian Luciano Darderi's run with a 6-1, 6-1 win in the other semi-final.
