Man City handed Sandro Tonali transfer twist after Newcastle agree £60m deal

Sandro Tonali is a midfield transfer target for Manchester City, but Newcastle United may no longer desperately need to sell

Newcastle United are poised to receive a £60million boost from a sponsorship deal that could impact Manchester City's pursuit of Sandro Tonali. Though Elliot Anderson is their top target, the Italian is another option with Tottenham and Arsenal also linked.

Having fallen short of securing any European football, a high-profile sale seemed inevitable at Newcastle, with Anthony Gordon appearing to be the chosen departure as he completed a £69m move to Barcelona earlier this month.

Despite that exit, Tonali could also be on his way out — though the Magpies' hand has been strengthened by a front-of-shirt sponsorship agreement with KNOX Hydration, believed to be worth £60m, according to the Manchester Evening News' sister title the Chronicle.

The South African company already have an existing arrangement with the club's training ground in a £6m-per-year deal running for the next three years. Their report further states that KNOX will contribute around £10m for the upcoming 2026/27 season, rising to £25m-per-year for the two subsequent seasons.

Such a substantial financial uplift could prove influential in negotiations over Tonali, with Newcastle no longer under pressing need to raise significant funds.

As things stand, City are more focused on his former Newcastle teammate Anderson, with two bids rejected prior to the World Cup kicking off.

The fate of Rodri is also a hotly contested subject, with a switch to Real Madrid being floated should they fail to secure either Enzo Fernandez or Mateus Fernandes, with City stalwart Bernardo Silva having already arrived in the Spanish capital on a free transfer.

Manchester United have also been linked to Anderson but the Etihad Stadium currently seems to be his most likely destination. Meanwhile, held talks with his representatives, Spurs appeared to be in the driving seat for Tonali.

Roberto De Zerbi has already brought Andy Robertson and Marcos Senesi to Spurs, with a deal for Brighton's Jan Paul van Hecke also confirmed on Wednesday evening. The future of Luka Vuskovic was closely tied to that £52million move, with Brighton having bids rejected by Spurs for the Croatian defender.

Arsenal, meanwhile, are yet to bring in any new signings, but are now actively pursuing a deal for Leicester City youngster Jeremy Monga.

Bournemouth's Eli Junior Kroupi, Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola and Aston Villa's Morgan Rogers have all been mentioned as potential attacking targets.
