Paul Scholes explains why he thinks Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro should be sold at Man Utd

Paul Scholes made the bold claim that he would be open to Manchester United selling both Patrick Dorgu and Leny Yoro after not being convinced by either player.

Patrick Dorgu had impressed under Michael Carrick in the first two Premier League matches that the Manchester United legend had led in the post-Ruben Amorim era.

The 21-year-old Danish defender netted against both Manchester City and Arsenal in January before he was sidelined for the last eight matches due to a hamstring injury.

Leny Yoro, meanwhile, has been handed his chance under Michael Carrick in recent months after defender Lisandro Martinez has been sidelined due to a calf injury.

Paul Scholes’ verdict on Patrick Dorgu’s time at Man Utd speaks volumes, despite Michael Carrick’s impact

Manchester United interim head coach Michael Carrick had tapped into Patrick Dorgu’s attacking range by playing him out on the left wing under his reign.

Dorgu had been inconsistent under former United manager Ruben Amorim, who often played the Denmark international in an inverted wing-back role in his system.

Speaking on his podcast, Paul Scholes agreed with fellow Man Utd legend Nicky Butt by saying that he would sanction the sale of Dorgu if he had the chance to do so.

“I don’t know what he is, he’s had some great games,” Nicky Butt said.

“He brought him in as a wingback, didn’t he? He’s not really played wing-back and he’s actually done all right in the last […].”

Responding to Butt, Scholes said on The Good, The Bad & The Football podcast: “I’d probably sell. Like Nicky says, I’m not sure what position he is.”

Paul Scholes puts Leny Yoro in the same Man Utd ‘sell bracket’ as Patrick Dorgu

Leny Yoro has started Man Utd’s last five Premier League matches and the 20-year-old Frenchman has completed the full 90 minutes on each occasion under Carrick.

The United ace’s form had been brought into question earlier in the 2025-26 Premier League campaign under Amorim before the former Red Devils boss was sacked.

Scholes, much like he did with Dorgu, admitted that he would be ready to sell Yoro after pointing to the French centre-back’s ‘struggles’ at Old Trafford so far.

“I think he’s struggled, me,” he said.

“I think there’s something in there, I think he needs a bit of time, but if you had to make a choice now, I’d probably sell him.”

Man Utd will return to Premier League action on 13th April for the first time since the end of the March international break, with the Red Devils hosting Leeds United.
