Jose Mourinho has reportedly stepped in to ensure that Arsenal transfer target Vinicius Jr does not leave Real Madrid this summer. The Gunners have made their move for the Brazilian, whose future at the Santiago Bernabeu has been uncertain over the last few weeks.

Vinicius’ contract with Madrid expires next summer, and there has been increased uncertainty about whether or not the 26-year-old will put pen to paper on an extension. football.london understands he is now likely to pen fresh terms in the Spanish capital.

Arsenal have approved of a deal for Vinicius at all levels, but there have been fresh updates suggesting that the Brazil star could end up staying in the Spanish capital beyond this summer.

Spanish news outlet AS have reported that Mourinho, Madrid’s new manager, has made it clear that he wants Vinicius to remain at the club.

The report claims that Mourinho has named Vinicius as one of six players who are deemed to be “untouchable” for Madrid this summer. The other players mentioned on Mourinho’s list are Kylian Mbappe, Thibaut Courtois, Marc Cucurella, Federico Valverde and Jude Bellingham.

A separate report from transfer reporter Fabrizio Romano has also claimed that Vinicius is close to signing a new deal to extend his stay in Madrid, which would put an end to the speculation surrounding a potential transfer.

As a result, it has been suggested that Vinicius is now expected to remain a Madrid player beyond this summer, meaning Arsenal may have to look at other targets to strengthen their forward line.

Christos Tzolis has already arrived after Arsenal agreed a £34million deal to sign the Greece international on a permanent basis from Club Brugge.

A host of other forwards have also been linked with moves to the Emirates Stadium this summer, including Paris Saint-Germain star Bradley Barcola and Bournemouth forward Eli Junior Kroupi.

Barcola is also reported to be a target for Liverpool this summer, while Kroupi suffered an injury during pre-season, which is expected to keep him on the sidelines for several months.

Morgan Rogers was also a target for Arsenal this summer before the England international completed a £117million move to Chelsea from Aston Villa.
