Gary Neville was among the first Premier League pundits to react to Liam Rosenior’s departure from Chelsea.

The 41-year-old was sacked on Wednesday after the Blues’ shocking 3-0 defeat to Brighton the night before.

While many will blame Rosenior for his shortcomings at Stamford Bridge, Neville has pointed his finger at the Chelsea owners.

Gary Neville blasts Chelsea owners after Liam Rosenior exit

Gary Neville has often criticised Chelsea’s owners since they took over from Roman Abramovich in 2022.

They have attempted to achieve success with a unique approach – signing dozens of young players to long-term deals.

Their philosophy also involved signing Rosenior to a six-and-a-half-year contract, which has already been terminated.

Neville insisted in his assessment that the owners must now take accountability for Rosenior’s failures.

“I’m not shocked that Liam is leaving the club,” he said on Sky Sports. “I’m shocked he’s leaving today. I thought it would probably happen at the end of the season…

“I don’t think it’s a reflection on Liam at all. Obviously, he has lost a lot of football matches in the last few weeks, and that’s disappointing, but it’s time for the owners, sporting directors, and players to reflect enormously on their role.

Who do YOU want to see replace Liam Rosenior now he is sacked?

Neville continued: “The owners are getting it really badly wrong there, let’s be clear. The owners haven’t got a clue what they’re doing.

“They’re all over the place. I just don’t get it. You get what you deserve in football, and it’s a reflection on them.”

Most Chelsea fans would not argue with criticism of the owners, as they also disagree with their decisions.

However, Neville’s comments seemed slightly generous to Rosenior, given that he made plenty of mistakes.

His team selection against Brighton – and the performance that followed – suggested he was not capable of leading Chelsea forward.
