Former West Ham player is an option for La Liga side

Adama Traore was released by West Ham United when his contract expired at the end of last season. The winger could now be set to join the La Liga side Deportivo La Coruña.

The Marca journalist Matteo Moretto posted on X (translated from Spanish), "Deportivo has contacted Adama Traoré. The winger is a real option for the Spanish club, but only under certain economic conditions."

Deportivo is a well-known side for older football fans, as they were regulars in the Champions League in the early 2000s. The club fell on hard times but was promoted to La Liga last season. Their campaign back in Spain's top flight begins on Monday when they host Elche.

They could do with strengthening the right-wing position, as David Mella is currently injured. Mella's return is unknown after he tore his lateral meniscus. Antonio Hidalgo's side still has the option of Luismi Cruz in the position.

Adama Traore could still do a job in La Liga

It did not work out for Traore at West Ham, as he made just 12 appearances without scoring, but did make two assists. He was brought in from Fulham last January and was unable to prevent the Hammers from being relegated from the Premier League. Traore was more successful in England with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Fulham, and Middlesbrough. He also represented Aston Villa.

The winger is now 30, and returning to Spain would be very fitting. Traore played eight times for the Spanish national team. He also began his career with Barcelona and returned to the club on loan from Wolves.

He would be a good asset to Deportivo as they look to survive in La Liga. As well as playing right wing, he can also play on the left and as a centre-forward. It had looked like Traore could be set for a reunion with his former Fulham manager, Marco Silva, at Benfica. However, talk of this has gone quiet. He has also been linked with the Turkish Super Lig side Samsunspor this transfer window.

West Ham should do fine without Traore this season, especially as they managed to keep hold of Jarrod Bowen. They have also brought in Manor Solomon from Tottenham Hotspur, who can play right wing but is predominantly a left-winger.
