NRL news 2026: Casey McLean re-signs with Penrith Panthers after Brian To’o exit

Panthers young gun Casey McLean has re-signed for a further two seasons in a massive boost for the club just days after losing Brian To’o.

McLean was already signed with Penrith until the end of 2028, but his rise to become one of the game’s elite centres has seen the club move quickly.

His new deal will see him remain at the Panthers until the end of 2030.

“Casey is an outstanding young player who has come through our pathways system and continued to develop at every level,” Penrith’s general manager of football Shane Elford said in a statement on Saturday.

“To have already represented both New South Wales and New Zealand at such a young age is a testament to his talent, commitment and maturity.

“We are excited about what Casey can achieve in the years ahead and are thrilled that he will remain a Panther until at least the end of 2030.”

McLean has scored 26 tries in 45 first-grade appearances since making his debut two years ago, rapidly becoming one of Penrith’s strike weapons.

The local junior has also gone on to represent New Zealand at international level, before making his State of Origin debut with the Blues this year.

He featured in two of the matches in NSW’s 2026 series triumph.

The news comes after four-time premiership winner To’o decided to join the PNG Chiefs for the 2028 season and beyond, leaving a huge hole in the backline.

Penrith have also extended McLean’s centre partner Paul Alamoti until 2029.
