Skinner leaves role as Manchester United head coach

Marc Skinner has left his role as Manchester United head coach by mutual agreement after five years at the helm of the club.

Skinner had another year to run on his contract but has decided to move on a month out from United beginning their Women's Super League season at London City Lionesses on 4 September.

Under Skinner, who succeeded Casey Stoney in July 2021, United reached four domestic cup finals in as many seasons, winning the club’s first major honour in women’s football with the 2024 FA Cup triumph.

"Marc Skinner has departed his role as head coach of Manchester United Women by mutual agreement," a club statement said on Monday.

"Marc leaves having made a significant contribution to the continued progress of Manchester United Women.

"The club places on record its sincere thanks for his professionalism, commitment and dedication throughout his time at United, and wishes him every success in the future."

Skinner also presided over United finishing runners-up in the WSL in the 2022-23 season, securing Champions League football for the first time in their history.

In the 2025-26 campaign, they reached the Champions League quarter-finals before losing to Bayern Munich but they missed out on a spot in Europe’s elite club competition this season after a fourth-placed finish in the WSL.

United finished nine points behind third-placed Chelsea and 15 behind champions Manchester City.
