Man United 0-0 Sunderland: Post Match Player Ratings

0
After officially guaranteeing Champions League football last week against Liverpool thanks to a late winner from Kobbie Mainoo, United escaped the Stadium of Light with a point.

Despite there being no goals in the fixture, it was an eventful game nevertheless, with both team having opportunities grabbing the three points.

Michael Carrick rested a lot of key starters today, most notably Casemiro who was not seen on the bench.

The lack of physicality in the midfield was evident where Mason Mount took the Brazilian's position and struggled to make an impact.

Below I rated the players performance that started.

Manchester United Player Ratings

Senne Lammens - 9/10

The Man United squad can thank Lammens for not conceding today after what was an incredible goalkeeping display to keep the Red Devils in the tie.

Was forced into an excellent save to deny Sadiki early on before making one of the best saves this season to stop Brian Brobbey in the second half.

Did a fantastic job at commanding his box and dealing with crosses and set pieces against a team that are so good at them.

Noussair Mazraoui - 4.5/10

Had a pretty difficult time dealing with Chemsdine Talbi throughout the game and looked shaky defensively.

Luckily that was about all wrong with the Moroccan's performance but he did not make much of a positive impact apart from that.

Harry Maguire - 6/10

Had an interesting battle today with Brian Brobbey, where both players used their physicality against each other with Maguire doing just enough to keep Brobbey quiet.

Was the most reliable defender in what was a shaky defensive display.

Lisandro Martinez - 5/10

Returned back from his suspension today and did not look great.

Unlike Maguire, when he was faced up against Brobbey, he seriously struggled against what was a much bigger and more physical player.

Luke Shaw - 6/10

Had a decent performance today, doing a solid job defensively and did well to take care of the ball when it was needed.

A professional performance that saw him all over the left side of the pitch.

Mason Mount - 3.5/10

Really struggled today in the midfield, struggling to make a pass or a tackle.

In his defence he was asked to play deeper than he is used to but even his passing was poor, with multiple misplaced or overhit passes.

Sunderland were able to play through the midfield fairly easily due to Mount's lack of ability to break up the play as well.

Kobbie Mainoo - 6/10

After a fantastic performance last week against Liverpool, he struggled today in a much more physical midfield battle.

He did fairly well defensively making a few good tackles but his passing and ball progression was not nearly up to the level we are used to seeing recently.

Bruno Fernandes - 6/10

A poor performance today from Fernandes in comparison to what we have been used to, which shows the level he has been at as of late.

It was evident his frustration after a lack of the ball throughout the game but when it came to his passing, he struggled to create those defence-splitting passes he has done so much this year.

Amad Diallo - 4/10

Another week, another poor performance by Diallo, struggling yet again to make any impact.

Had a half chance in the first half that went wide but apart from that did not do much for the rest of the game.

Joshua Zirkzee - 3.5/10

Was given the opportunity to start today after Carrick decided to rest an in form Benjamin Sesko, but looked off his game the entire time.

His touch was poor and he lost the ball constantly throughout, also missing a great opportunity with a header that went over the bar.

Matheus Cunha - 4.5/10

Created a good opportunity for Zirkzee in the first half, but apart from that had little impact as well.

Started off on the left but moved into the middle of the pitch in the second half where he played better, nearly getting a goal in stoppage time.
